Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony is focusing on Hard-Core Gamers for PS5

That's unfortunate. Anti-gamer behavior like this needs to see more pushback. So, I'll put this as a check mark in XB's favor when trying to decide which next gen console to buy first.

Pity, I was hoping both MS and Sony would have stopped with this BS anti-consumer behaviour. Oh well.

I dont like Timed exclusives... i rather they put that money on producing more of their own games with their own studios, OR pay for the development of brand new (completely) exclusive IPs from 3rd party studios (like what they did with Bloodborne).

hmmm seems like its timed exclusives.... well whatever both sides do it.

I read that WSJ article, for some reason I can't access it again, a paywall appears. The article never mention anything about time-exclusive it's just pushsquare that assumes this. The article was about Sony going after the hardcore gamers with the PS5 and focusing on games from big publishers, indie games is just less important.

With this information I think PS5 will be more expensive than $400 and more likely $500+ and they are focusing on power, not price for the PS5.

6x master league achiever in starcraft2

Beaten Sigrun on God of war mode

Beaten DOOM ultra-nightmare with NO endless ammo-rune, 2x super shotgun and no decoys on ps4 pro.

1-0 against Grubby in Wc3 frozen throne ladder!!

"According to a new report, PlayStation is doubling down on hardcore gamers with the PS5"

"The report comes way of Wall Street Journal who claims Sony will focus on its more PlayStation hardcore base with the PS5. And this is quite different than what Xbox and Google's marketing plan has been so far, which has been to expand gaming to bigger audiences."

Anyways Sony knows it needs to send more $ on games for next gen, and is willing to do so.
Next gen will see even more AAA games from Sony.

Why? they believe its what the hardcore gamer wants, basically.

Sony isnt planning to go chaseing after new or bigger audiences, from say streaming, they are going after the hardcore/traditional gamers.

According to an insightful Wall Street Journal report, Sony is looking to make deals with major publishers in order to put the PlayStation 5 in the best possible position when it launches next year. The publication claims that the platform holder is focusing on major, big budget titles – and it’s lining up both timed exclusivity and exclusive content to differentiate itself.

This will likely end up an extension of its PS4 strategy, where it partnered closely with major releases like Destiny and Watch Dogs to give it the upper-hand. If anything, its bargaining power is likely to have strengthened since the launch of its current-gen console, so don’t be surprised if it spotlights some whopping third-party titles when the PS5 is finally revealed to the world.

this is actually 3 things.
1) More major publishing deals, of exclusivity.
2) Focusing on major budget titles (their own games)
3) knows its own exclusives + timed exclusives, are what differentiates itself (from competitors)

Thread title , only reflects 1 thing from this news, and in a negative light.
The Wall Street Journals peice, was about strategy, and Sony with PS5 going after Hardcore gamers.

^ this is what the pushsquare article peice is referenceing.

Its about What Sony plans to do for next gen,
and thats basically not go chaseing "bigger audiences" with streaming and such, but instead focus on (hard)core Gamers.

Its even in the title of the peice.

That sounds like a horrible business decision. If its true and they are only focusing on the Hardcore audience than the system will only sell to a fraction of what the PS4 sold world wide.

The casual audience makes up for a lot of the sales for each platform, to simply ignore them will hurt the brand and also push for cheaper alternatives from others.

Unless PSNow is going to be a solid focus point next gen as the alternative, I cannot see a positive outcome releasing another PS3 priced console.

So arrogant Sony is indeed back. Was afraid of that

Timed exclusives suck, use that money to develop your own games.
