Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why did Pokemon even jump to 3D?

If going back to 2D pokemon games would guarantee the National Dex, would you be fine with it?

I got it the first 4 times. You and your crystal ball can pre-determine the quality of game that isn't released yet. Awesome. I tend to use reviews to screen, then filter based on genre preference, then final judgement by playing. I don't have a crystal ball, unless you care to share yours?

And see, I was thinking the saddest part is somebody who has already made their mind up on games that haven't even released yet. But hey, that is me. I believe in waiting till games are released before making a judgement.

Uh, you're also judging the Pokémon games saying that they look good games based on the trailers and gameplay alone.

"Look" good meaning it could be good, it has potential. I haven't made a final judgement, unlike some. Final judgement, and rightfully so, will be reserved for when the game is released.  I don't rate games good or bad, unless I have played them.

It may end up not being the best in the series, while still being a good game.  Either way, I can't see going back to GBA from a graphical perspective.

None of the series' best games are on the GBA, though. But regardless, that's a bit of a sad mindset to have.

Correct. The best games were HeartGold and SoulSilver on DS.

Meh, I'll wait to see how the game plays. If it is bad, such is life. But it might be good. Any chance your crystal ball has this week's winning lottery numbers? Thanks in advance.

The world moves forward.

The criticism should be on they making annual releases and forgetting quality. But sales indicate customers are fine like this.

All I know is arm chair impressions don't mean much. I thought Mario vs Rabbids was one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard of. Everything about it (on paper) seemed off. And shortly after it's announcement the web ripped it apart. Now that I have played it, I can honestly say it is my third favorite Switch game. And it reviewed quite nicely, oh and sold millions.

I'm super hyped for the game I don't care about having all the pokemon I have never once even attempted to catch them all.

There shouldn't be a choice to begin with. Having the national dex was never a problem in any of the prior gens, particularly Black/White (Added the most new Pokemon out of any generation to date; Pokedex jumps from 493 to over 649!), X/Y (Series jumps to 3D; Newer & stronger hardware; They have to make new 3D models and animations for over 700 Pokemon; Pokedex goes over 700), and Sun/Moon (Pokedex goes over 800). So what the hell is Sword/Shield's excuse? How did they get it right in 2013, but then fuck it up now?!

Game Freak already had a 3D model and animations for every single Pokemon prior to Gen 8 since 2017, all they had to do was upscale them to HD like they already did with the original 151 in Let's Go. If it took them an extra year, or if they needed to hire significantly more staff in order to do it, than so be it. It's not like they have a shortage of money and resources.

They are the developers and brains behind one of the most financially successful video game franchises, (2nd only to Mario), which is also part of THE most financially successful multimedia franchise on the planet! Pokemon, as a whole, has made/is making more money than Mario, Star Wars, Mickey Mouse, Disney Princess, Dragon Ball, Harry Potter, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just to name a few. And thanks in large part to Pokemon GO, the franchise is making more money and more profits than it ever has, or at the very least, around the same level as they were from 1998 to 2000, when the series was at its peak as a worldwide phenomenon.

They can easily have all the money and resources they could ever need or want. They could have easily:
A) Significantly expanded their staff to deal with the added challenge of developing for stronger hardware. (The first logical thing to do.)
B) Ask Nintendo, Monolith Soft, or other second party developers who are familiar and experienced with HD development to help them. (Like how Monolith Soft, with their familiarity and experience with developing open world games, played a significant role in the development of Breath of the Wild.)
C) Delay the game so that they can have the National Dex and make it the best it can possibly be. (The second logical thing to do.)

They CAN do it. They just choose not to, because they'd rather rush it out the door as quickly as possible to make their hundreds of millions off of it NOW. Whether it's because they're in over their heads or they're just out of touch. Bottom line: There is absolutely no excuse for this whatsoever.
