Forums - Politics Discussion - Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft issue Joint Statement on potential tariffs on China

https://twitter.com/zhugeex/status/1143914924424531971?s=21

(Message to mods: I uploaded this thread earlier, or tried to anyways, but ran into some troubles when trying to upload some images from my phone. This one doesn’t have the photos and I was able to post it, so I would like to request that you lock the prior thread and allow this one to continue. Thank you.)

Surprised I didn’t see someone already talk about this. If so, I apologize for the repeat. But it seems only two things can get Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to stop competing and stand side by side: The Game Awards and Politics impacting their business.

The Big Three recently issued a joint statement, link to it above, on the proposed tariffs on China from the Trump Administration and its potential negative effects on the video game console market and video games in general.

If nothing else, hopefully this serves as a reminder that politics affects us all and while some of us may not want to approach it, talk or think about it, or engage in it, life goes on, the world goes on, and it eventually finds its way back to us and to a lesser degree, oir hobbies.

I'm glad for the tariffs, we have been getting screwed by China for several decades. Maybe the big 3 will make there damn systems in the usa,Japan or somewhere else. And let China know they can go straight to hell

Yeah, like it's just that easy. Snap of the finger and suddenly the big 3 can start manufacturing in the U.S. when all their infrastructure is in China -_-

You do know that these tarffis wont hurt China much... in the end its YOU who will pay the increased tarrifs.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

This is terrible for the industry and it's consumers. Not even sure how, or if, this will impact Canada, but that's not the point....I can't hate the prick more than I already do. This is far from the biggest issue brought about by president shit-for-brains. Sucks, but I won't get too riled up about it. Whatrugondo?

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

Elections have consequences. Americans should shut up and pay up.

It's a necessity that America take steps to be able to guard their technological dominance because for everything that get's manufactured in China, the state eventually funnels those tiny profit margins into developing their own independent core technology that's competitive with America's ...

America was only able to enjoy it's low prices for consumer goods for so long since the world kept tolerating their technological monopoly but now that there exists one potential superpower attempting to breakaway and to establish their own technological sovereignty, America's advantage in trade for the future may as well have come to an abrupt end ...

People used to love to bash on companies that ship labor overseas for using slave labor basically and yet as soon as it affects them they are no longer humanitarians.

I've heard my whole life growing up how cheap labor is in China and other places and how horrible it is. Now we are celebrating it cause Trump is the one that puts his foot down?

Same with companies that produce in like Mexico. Trump raised tarrifs on stuff like that and the companies bitch and moan and some come home, or not. Either way prices go up. People hate Trump. Never is the company hated on for using basically slave labor.

No one is giving a China a pass for how they tend to treat workers. They are just dismissing tariffs as a way to combat it.

How do you fight that then?

Ban Chinese produced products completely?

Convince enough consumers to boycott products made in China?

Seems that raising tariffs enough so that the product costs what it would if it were made in America, so that American companies can compete is the most effective way. The U.S. can't do it alone though, China will just export more to other countries. Other developed countries need to also make a stand and do this. Only then will we all be able to convince China to start paying their workers good wages, at which point tariffs will be removed.

I don't like raised prices any more than the next person, but video games are a small thing. What the one base price goes up on console. Games should be same, especially with how we are more digital than ever. I'm expecting to see a big hit though on all the board/card games I purchase though. They have been taking advantage of the cheap Chinese for a long time.
