No, because the development process for Unreal Engine 4 games hasn't gone well. There's Yoshi's Crafted World and Link's Awakening as examples, the former is a known entity and doesn't need to be explained. Link's Awakening in the E3 demo build changes between 60fps and 30fps which is a concession to the shortcomings of the engine.



Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Nintendo prolly doesn't want to pay royalties for that.

Also, I think they really value uniqueness in their games. I doubt they would want their games to look generic, or like the majority of big games out there. And besides, they're doing well on their own right now.



Their in house engines are clearly built for their hardware so it's likely that these engines are built alongside the hardware as it's being developed this not only allows them to do what they want for most part but also means they don't need to pay any royalties. I can only see them using third party engines for games where the is a straight forward template where not much tinkering is required to execute the ideas they have but for games like Zelda and Mario where the are a number of ideas and concepts coming together I doubt they'd used them.



It's possible we might be seeing Unreal more in projects worked on by side teams, again like Good Feel, that are tied to but not really Nintendo. I'm curious if there are any Good Feel esc teams we haven't seen yet.

(Pokemon and Unreal is certainly doable, but again we have no idea what is going on at Game Freak these days so who knows....)

No. Having your own engine that does exactly what you want it to, instead of a bloated engine that does a billion things poorly, speeds development. Nintendo doesn't want to pay anybody for anything. They like having their own console, publishing their own games, and using their own engine. Everything is under their control. Anybody else notice how Nintendo has always been a control freak? The fact that they let somebody make Cadence of Hyrule is bonkers. That, and it was no surprise that Mario X Rabbids turned out great. Nintendo wouldn't have had it any other way. I think they learned a lot from those CDi Zelda games back in the day.

Yeah I didn't want to say anything considering the thread we had praising Crafted World for how good it looked despite it's resolution, but, with UE4 games it seems like you always have to give something up in comparison to a Nintendo in-house engine. It would probably have better framerate or resolution if it was EAD.

I have to admit, I couldn't really remember if the game was 60fps or 30fps and I just assumed it must be 30fps (because of Kirby Star Allies ironically, lol)! 

It is definitely one of the best looking games on Switch, but I do have to wonder if using a Nintendo engine would have made it much smoother. Not just in resolution, but also in development time. Yoshi, as a fairly standard 2D platformer with a somewhat quirky concept, really shouldn't have needed a year-long delay. 

Again though, I think it probably makes sense to use UE4 when it's a third party developer making a Nintendo title. I'm not sure why they don't use Nintendo engines because you'd think Nintendo would supply them with everything they need such as engine experts, and I imagine there are fairly regular checks on third party devs to make sure they're making their games properly (MP4 being an example). Maybe it just makes more sense to use one of the better third party engines and not to hog resources from Nintendo, as I imagine the studios can do the majority of the work themselves if they aren't use a proprietary engine they might have less experience with.



Unreal Engine is kind of garbage, so...ideally no. At least not for anything that demands high framerate/graphical fidelity.

Not well informed enough about Unity to say for it.

From what I've read, it has a dynamic resolution that never reaches even 720p, on docked mode. But the framerate maintains a stable 60fps. Of course, I can't base anything off my experience, because I couldn't care less about Yoshi.
