Final Fantasy XV was bad compared to X, and this is coming from someone who quite liked XV. I think X has one of the most memorable cast out of all the Final Fantasy games, each character feels unique and authentic. Has one of the best battle systems too, where you can switch characters on the fly in battle.

FFX has a strong story like FFVIII and very good music. The battle system is also quite fun and is an embodiment of turn based JRPGs. The linearity is about as linear as Star Ocean Till the End of Time. Many places you must go, but also very open. The world is very immersive, and the story forces you to think about what is right. The environments are very varied from a tropical island to a cold mountain. There will definitely be technology and interesting weapons around it.

Geez.

- Final Fantasy X is a very Linear game. Period. Optional stuff is available, but it doesnt make that go away.
- Final Fantasy X's battle system is good in concept but not the greatest execution. Very low enemy variety will lead to samey battles - Once you find a way to quickly dispatch one the small selection of enemy formations in each area you will just repeat it. The game needed a lot more enemy variety/formation to pull of it what it wanted.
- Final Fantasy 12 is the pinnacle of Final Fantasy

Oh! Because of the way experience works you will find yourself needlessly switching in characters not really needed to make sure they stay leveled

I dont mean just to point you out, but this is not trure. Locations are NOT very open. Very few areas in the game even allow to veer off the main path more than a few feet.

For me ffx was good, but I always thought that ff9 was the last great ff, so I would recommend any ff game from 6 to 9 including ff tactics, if you like ff7 have you considered other psx rpgs?,like suikoden 2, xenogears, grandia, chrono cross, lunar? Many of these games are available on ps3.

I suppose I did not mean to say "very", but it is open enough that you can usually go anywhere you have been, and by the end of the game you can go almost anywhere plus a few extra areas. It is somewhat similar to FFVII and FFVIII, while they both have big worlds there is hardly any reason to veer off the main path.

Well, FFX/X-2HD is probably dirt cheap by now so you don't have much to lose if you end up not liking the game.

Definitely X over XII. X is pretty standard but XII has one of the worst battle systems ever.

Ffx is very linear there’s no way anyone would deny it, the game opens up just when you are about to finish it, by that time you have already vistited 90% of the world, I always though that taking the world map was a big mistake it turned the game into a long hallway, sure older ff weren’t completely open but at least you had the option to wander around, that option was taken away when they decided to remove the world map in favor of connected hallways.
