TBH, as long as it doesn't affect the pricing afterwards this wouldn't necessarily be a bad trend imo. Because it forces the game to be reasonable, and a good game, without micro-transactions at launch.

Prices for Skins/Karts/Decals in CTR and coins earned for races is already established, so it would be difficult for them to try and raise the prices to push people to buy coins and if they did so there would be a backlash, backed by evidence.

So MTX being added at a later date may actually be good for the game because they're forced to make the game enjoyable without it.

I disagree. I'm not a fan of this tactic and I don't at all like the "as long as" pov, because that's primarily what allows these things to spread. I want the root cause cut off and no nurturing of it either. Just make the game as is, ship it and give out the content, be it paid or free, but don't try to solidify MT's being at home, because they weren't at home to begin with in the old days.

I've already caught wind of how they nerfed coin gains, in order to create a problem, to then make the MT's more appealing. Wolf YoungBlood does this, and they patched out the cheat engine, thus showing that they 100% want you to buy into those gold bars, or suffer a tedious grind.

You have to look at it from how we used to game, as back then, we didn't have to do insane tedious grinds, because we had shortcuts, cheats, pickups and the like. Now we have to pay for those, or just not have any at all. You also have to realize that, just because it's not a grind for you, or it's easy for you to gain X amount of resources, to bypass paying, doesn't mean it's objectively the same for everyone else. If you want to play a patience game, then force your patience as a rule over everyone else, (should never do that for a start) then you're only going to come off as pompous and arrogant.

Not sure how adding MT;'s objectively makes a game superior, than it does without them. Warped logic to me, because if that's how it's factually to run, then all games should be crammed to the brim with MT's, past and present, as well as future.

Yes we did, I remember in Tekken 3 beating arcade mode with XiaoYu 50 times to unlock her last costume and bonus stage. Probably were cheats but unlocking everything with a cheat felt sad.   Also you don't need everything their is really no purpose to grind for something that you will never use it is all optional.  So many games add stuff after a paywall, want extra fighters pay up, want extra cars pay up, want more adventure dlc pay up , want a costume pay up.  This game is basically more you play more you will get and that's totally fine, some will never reach prestige levels in fps games, some will never finish a RPG because they are to long but that's life :s.

The addition of microtransactions has somewhat soured me on buying the game for now. I'll still probably get it at some point, but I'm going to wait until the price drops. Adding them so long after launch just makes it obvious that they wanted to wait until all the reviews were done so they wouldn't affect review scores and any potential sales.

Some people like using cheat codes, and there's nothing wrong with that in an SP game, or a game, where both parties agree to using a handicap method. If you don't want to input a cheat, that's fine, but I'd love for there to be an option to, rather than none at all, or turning it into a paid thing, because it was once regarded as something free, that was just a part of the game itself.

I wouldn't assume that no one on this earth would want everything within a given product, that's a bit short sighted imo. I want the option to change skins in a game, and there are a good number of old games that allowed for that. These days it's either an MT or a heavy grind, that could also involve a MT, to make said grind "go away", but that's not really a good idea, because then you're slapping in artificial grinding, just to make the MT look ideal, and to me, that's flawed logic, because you're effectively creating an issue out of thin air, in order to make more money.

Yeah, Startcraft added quite some stuff after the first, second and final expansion, but do you want to know how much that cost for a few years?, around £200+, for an RTS of all games, and no, that's not "well worth the value", that's treading into Train sim territory, and no, as an RTS fan, I don't want a £200+ RTS game. I want a £40 RTS game, with non community splitting maps (because it is a fact that map packs have split communities in various genres before, hence the change in how the maps are dolled out these days).

See, this model you describe, suits perfectly to a F2P game, not a £40-60 game.

I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with that logic that it's fine to charge and gouge more and more. I'm not a corporate person, who loves to see a business making billions each year, primarily because 1), I'm not running the company, and 2) I'm not basking in that wealth, and have little interest, because gaming is ultimately a luxury, not a cure for cancer, which I'd be most interested in supporting and showing undying love for.

First of all their are cheats in CTR but except Pinguin they disable achievements/trophies.
Their are +120 skins in the game that don't need the pitstop/wumpa coins in the initial package.

Reviews were for the initial package, their is no review that reviewed the +25 characters coming from the grandprix/6 tracks/20 extra karts/50extra skins, etc...

We have racing games that add 100 dollars in DLC/Fighter games that add season passes for characters and skins/free to play games that added thousands of dollars of skins.

Their are a lot kids who probably don't get the season pass for smash from their parents or season pass for spiderman, Smash sold 15 million and was full priced so could Nintendo not just release those characters for free? Where is the outrage? Beenox could have easily added a season pass to this game for 20$ and it would have been a fair price but those kids probably again could not get it. Beenox didn't and let everyone have the option to earn it and that's great!   I get that people don't like microtransacations but acting like this game is one of the most offensive ones is silly.

Happy that Nina Cortex is confirmed:

Now that you know all that’s coming with CTR’s mad dash into the past with the Back N. Time Grand Prix, we also want to give a little glimpse into what the future holds. It’s no secret that Spyro is crashing the Crash Bandicoot party in Grand Prix Season 3 (and we can’t wait to give you the full details on his season as we get closer to it).

But we’re also excited to let fans know that they can expect more of their favorite characters from the Crash Bandicoot universe to join in on the Nitro-Fueled fun in the seasons after. Get ready for characters like N. Brio, Nina Cortex, and Komodo Moe to start shredding up the racetrack soon!

And that's fine if they allow cheats and disable trophies. At least they aren't charging for them, because if they were, that would be looked down upon.

Skins that don't require any other currency, and are unlocked purely in the old fashioned way, without needing an MT to inject with a purchase is also fine. We have skins on heroes of the storm, that are not bought with gems, but are instead forged via a collection of shards, which cannot be bought with any sort of MT.

I don't think game reviewers make a living in terms of reviewing skins, unless you're PCG, who love gossiping non stop about Fortnite skins. If it were released as a free or paid expansion, like MHW will be doing, then I would expect that to get a review.

I am aware, and they are also insanely costly, if you want the whole package. That doesn't mean to say "pay what you want" is the best model given to man, and how all games should be going forward, because that just isn't it, not for the entire industry, not for all consumers either.

Yes, there are kids who won't be getting the whole pass, but there are adults and other kids that can, have and will.

Making a full priced game and releasing characters for free, with no MT's or strings attached is great, and I applaud that model, because it's pro-consumer. Adding in MT's and introducing what will always become an artificial grind, because without MT's, you don't need that artificial grind to begin with, but beyond that, just adding them in isn't pro-consumer, because the previous model was free and was already pro-consumer, before MT's arrived. Trying to say "paid for">literally free is foolhardy to suggest.

I find it silly to allow it to spread, because if you're to forgive it now, you allow my experiences to deteriorate and for little room to right back, because it's labeled user "silly", so your way would in turn over time, override mine and then it's basically you telling me, via your forgiveness on how I should game, and I frankly find that a direct obstacle to my way of gaming.

The very last thing I want, is a group who are tolerant to predatory practices, paving the way for others to be forced out of a hobby they like, simply because the other party refuses to understand, let alone respect the other's wishes, and that's where this sort of topic lands us.

You want options?, free is a very fine and far better start, than paying each and every time, or facing an artificial grind.

That doesn't really make it any better. It's still a company adding microtansactions to a game long after launch, and effectively bolting a free-to-play economy to a remaster of a 20-year-old game that you still have to pay real money to get. This isn't even the first time Activision's done this, and I have no patience for this stuff. I don't mind microtransactions in free-to-play games as I understand they need to get their money somehow, but I will never buy them in games you pay money for. All they do is make me less likely to ever buy those games, and certainly reinforces my decision to just never buy games at launch again.

Their latest CoD definitely comes to mind with their heavy MT's, or Ubisoft in the past with "macro" transactions. AAA knows exactly what they are doing and what they want, and what they want is more money and an upfront cost, not the silly illusion of "choices", not when they have a cost entry level barrier to them.
