.... oh yeah, it's US only. I was wondering why I couldn't see Octopath Traveler in this chart, wait scratch it.

Why isn't Octopath Traveler in this chart ?! It sold more than 1.5M copies a long time ago worldwide and I'm pretty sure the US had the biggest piece of the pie there.

Published by Nintendo in the US.

Chart is about 3rd party games, doesn't matter if it's published by Ninty or not. It certainly not first party, nor is it 2nd party. It is on PC now too.

It's very possible Japan contributed well to it's sales to a point it didn't pop up for this list.

300K at most. Physical sales were around 200K by the end of 2018 and I know the game had an unusual high digital ratio because of stock issues.

US probably took a larger piece of pie than Europe just by looking at precedent first week charts in most Euro countries.

I'd be putting it at around 500K-600K copies sold in the US honestly.

Doesnt matter, they published it so it is not counted as a 3rd party title.

While I agree that 3rd party releases won't just instantly dry up because of the new consoles, how does this list prove it? We have no actual number of units sold nor any comparison to how well they did when put against PS4/XBO sales. It definitely doesn't have Nintendo ”leading the pack of third party game sales."

You're misunderstanding him; he's saying that even though it was made and published by Ubisoft, a Mario game is #1, so Nintendo is "leading the pack of third party game sales" on their own system.

And these games don't need to sell as well as the PS4 versions to still be profitable. According to VGC, Doom sold 430k physically worldwide on Switch, but that was enough for Bethesda to bring over Doom Eternal.

zorg is right because that's how NPD does these things. Nintendo published Octopath Traveler, so it counts towards their total of games sold in the US, plus it excludes the game from a third party game list because Nintendo is not a third party publisher.

It's true that Octopath Traveler isn't a first party game, just like it's true that Mario + Rabbids isn't really a third party game. There are notable differences though. Octopath Traveler is merely a third party game that was published by Nintendo while Mario + Rabbids is an IP collaboration which puts it in the same inbetween area as what is defined as a second party game (console manufacturer working with an independent third party where the console manufacturer has control over which platforms the game arrives on due to IP and/or copyright ownership).

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Well, Kingdom Battle is not a third party game, its actually a second party, but other than that, happy to see this level of success for third party companies.

Certainly Mario being in the game helps sales, but I think Rabbids is more than that. I was rather surprised at how good the game is. Excellent game, very fun. I would buy a sequel.

Oh yeah. This is a case of Nintendo brand image doing the hard work initially, but after the game launched, the game managed to stand up on its own.

If a sequel is produced, the Mario IP isnt the only thing that I will be looking foward to the game aand making me excited for it.

NPD determines these things based on who publishes the game. Kingdom Battle is published by Ubisoft so it's considered 3rd party.

Well, nobody is correct all the time.

1) Diablo 3 is definitely not like the others.  It's really more of a PC game than anything else.  I say, more PC style games like this (or Civ 6) need to come to Switch.

2) Surprised Sonic Mania didn't make the list.  I thought for sure it would have sold well like the Crash trilogy did.
