It amazes me how many people think how unimportant real, signifcant third party support from companies like EA is for long-term success of a console's life.

Yes I know, "Fuck EA, they're cancer, worst company in America"... EA brings in $5 billion a year. That's an enormous consumer base. Their games matter to the gaming community whether you like it or not.

There are millions of people out there that won't consider a console that doesn't have games like Call of Duty, Madden, Grand Theft Auto, and Assassin's Creed. How many Switches could Nintendo sell if they had these franchises on their platform?

Let's see the DS had half assed CoD and GTA that barely sold.  GTA on DS sold semi decent but wasn't gang busters.  How many sales did the DS pull without most of those franchises or half ass versions?  Believe it ended up being 2nd highest system sold.

Who said anything about half-assed versions?

And still hybrid ? If not, then look at the Xbox One. And if you want an hybrid system, then obviously you have to give up something else.

Or, and the Wii was also a success.

It's only a "hybrid" because Nintendo says it is. It's a handheld that shipped with a way to connect it to a TV out of the box. What did they really give up by "making it hybrid" exactly? A little bit of manufacturing cost by having the detachable controllers (which are easily its worst, and one of its least refined features) and shipping it with a dock, both of which they'll likely wipe out by making a "Switch Mini" which is little more than "A switch with all of the 'hybrid' features removed", which just reaffirms just how much of a handheld it really is.

Sure, the Wii was a success. It had significant support from every major third party, including EA. What's your point?

First bolded: It's a hybrid because it has two interchangeable playstyles, handheld and tv,not only because Nintendo says it is but by the nature of this product.

Second bolded: Yes that makes it a hybrid.

So the only reason PSP Go is not a hybrid was that the dock that allowed you to connect it to a TV and use a PS3 controller with it was sold separately. Seems pretty flimsy.

No,i was never invested into psp Go but if that was the case you might consider it had the option to be hybrid and the switch in its current state because the handheld is sold together with the dock could be called a hybrid yes.

Flimsy or not,as long as 2 elements can be utilized trough one device or product like how the switch is currently sold you can call it a hybrid. Switch mini is not a hybrid because that option has been removed.

By your logic, since Sony made PS4/PS Vita bundles in Europe, and you can use cross play to play your PS4 pretty much anywhere on your Vita, the PS4/Vita is a hybrid console for any one who bought one of those bundles, but not the people who bought them separately.

But honestly, this is just an argument over semantics. If you're comfortable calling one device that ships with a specific accessory "a hybrid device" but another device that doesn't ship with that accessory but would function very similarly when used in tandom with it "not a hybrid device", than that's fine. I'm not going to tell you you're wrong or anything. It's literally a matter of how important having one line on your receipt instead of two is to you.

Since this conversation will derail the thread if we keep going, I suggest we just let this go and chalk it up as "a difference of opinion". Cool?

Tell us how many.

There you go trying to order me around again. I'll consider speculating on what that number will be life-time if you ask nicely.

I'd appreciate it if you speculated on what that number would be.

Noted.

Bolded :Yes by definition it is, the product you buy that is called the switch are 2 parts of what makes a hybrid and it is sold as one package.

Second bolded:That's partly hybrid with the option to make it a hybrid.

Yes we are derailing this thread, so ofcourse difference in opinion is cool and i respect yours. :)
