Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's Naughty Dog been doing this whole console generation?

I can see where you are coming from, even i had this skepticism, what happened this gen to all the big studios, Considering PS4 is far easier to develop than PS3.. but i think it comes down to games jumping from 720p to 1080p.

The only one studio which dropped off big time is Media Molecule apart from a tearaway they have been working on dreams since 2012.

1) Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (bluepoint, but naughtydog probably kept overview of it)
2) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
3) Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
4) Last of Us - Part II

I'm still happy with what Naughty Dog is doing and releasing.   I cannot say the same about Polyphony Digital...what the fook are they doing ? What about GT7 ?

I DON'T THINK LAST OF US 2 BEING LAUNCH TITLE WOULD BE BAD IF ITS CROSS GEN ps4/ps5 LIKE BREATH OF WILD WII U/SWITCH Xbox one/ Xbox scarlett halo infinite?

I personally feel NOT launching TLoUp2 for the ps5 launch is a huge mistake on Sony’s part. MS is bringing their biggest gun to the NextBox release holiday 2020, so if Sony doesn’t follow suit, I feel they’re making a huge mistake.

Even releasing TLoUp2 early 2020 and having it ready for the ps5 launch is a mistake imo, as even 6mo will cause TLoUp2 to lose much of its luster.

Naughty Dog released TLOU in June 2013, developed an expansion with Left Behind in february 2014, canceled the Uncharted 4 version of Amy Hening in 2014, she leaves with the codirector and Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann took over... a lot of crunch, a lot of pressure releasing Uncharted 4 in May 2016 with around 2 years of development. Bruce Straley leaves Naughty Dog, first sabbath then leaves officially.
Expansion is in development with Lost Legacy, releasing in August of 2017.

When we look at the problematic break up of the two project rhythm in 2014 and we still got a 3 year turn per game that looks still impressive.

Games just need more time and Naughty Dog is not the only developer, from Rocksteady to 343i, CD Projekt Red to Sucker Punch. As long as the games will be good in the end I do not care that it takes longer, especially with Open Worlds binding us longer (not Naughty Dog related for now).

Exactly this, except you missed TLoU remastered, which ND did in-house and took them I think 1 year? And it sold 12mil copies on PS4 alone, which is more than 2-3 games (or more) combined for most studios.

Whatever you feel about Naughty Dog's actual games, I feel like it's a bit odd to call them out specifically for not releasing games consistently. If anything they've done a great job of staying consistent with game releases despite game development taking longer and being more expensive.

TLOU Remastered is a great port that was developed in-house and allowed them to get more used to the PS4's tech, so I feel like it should count, especially because it's a PS3 game that was developed on very different architecture.

They basically made two different Uncharted games already.

And they have TLOU 2 coming, and probably a new IP.

That's four games this gen.

👍

I would rather ask what the hell media molecule is up too, they still haven't released a single game this gen, nor have set a release date to actually release Dreams.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

If only it was Jak 4.

I'm 100% sure now that TLOU2 is a cross-gen late 2020 title.

What's the point in cross-gen if PS5 will support PS4 discs? Did you see a lot of cross-gen games between PS1-PS2? They will release it for PS4 since it has huge install base and you will be able to play it on PS5 just fine. Mark my words.
