Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Breath of the Wild 2 will take place in the same Hyrule.

As long as they add a ton of content and interesting side quests to the world I don't see the problem.

That was BOTW's biggest problem. Side Quests, Activities, Variety in content. With having the map already they can focus on these things. Fill the world with interesting stuff to do.

If there's lot of underground stuff that would explain why there were so few in BotW...I hated coming up to destructable rock formation on the side of the mountain just to find a chest instead of entrance to some nice dungeon.

The Breath of the wild haters taking grip to every bit of info to try and shut the sequel down. We literally just saw some heavily cuts of some cinematics and Aonuma just said that they wanted to make a sequel to add more story to the universe of Breath of the wild. I really don't think he meant it as we are going to play in the same map or area. If there is anything we saw the castle rising up so this literally shows it will wether change or we are going somewhere else.

We can make nothing clear out of what we know and y'all jumping to quick negative conclusion isn't out of what the sequel is but just the fact you didn't like certain aspects of Botw. The only thing that will likely comeback from Botw is the INCREDIBLE engine and gameplay. Nintendo is heavily listening to fans nowadays and i'm 100% sure they will fix the story elements (which what people disliked was cause it was from the past, it's done now so that's fixed already) and the lack of classic dungeons, which i'm sure there will be.

Insanely lazy game development but that's been their M.O with Zelda since Ocarina so not surprised.

Do you even know what you are talking about?

Not good news for me, I spent a countless amount of time in Hyrule already and know it by heart. I hope there's enough changes to make it feel fresh and possibly an addition of a dark world at least.

^^
Ancient Stone Tablets would then be a better example, though obviously that never had a full retail release and was only available on SNES as a download for a limited time so there’s pretty much no one alive anymore that actually played it.

If it wasn't for the fact that I technically don't think that objectivity in terms of reception of art exists, I would say this is the most objectively wrong comment I've seen on this site.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I have a feeling a substantial portion of this game will take place beneath Hyrule. There are dungeons to explore down there, that's for sure. I also wouldn't be surprised if Link develops a skill to destroy certain types of rocks in the overworld that will give him access to subterranean caverns. I'm excited for underground rivers, dazzling quartz veins, phosphorescent creatures, etc. And certainly I could imagine the overworld undergoing some form of cataclysmic event that could alter the shape of the land. What I really wonder about, though, is what will have become of all of the shrines. Do they exit the land? I just can't see them leaving them there and/or not establishing a reason for their absence.

Given the best part of BotW for me was the exploration, that sounds like a bit of a problem but perhaps they can execute superbly.

While I don't disagree that this can be done well (I'll get into that further down), I don't think A Link Between World is an example of that.
And since @curl-6 hasn't played it, I feel I should point out some of the reasons for why the situations are so different.

3.) The story takes place after a very long time has passed, so there are plenty of significant geographical differences that have come about in the 100's (?) of years that have passed.

2.) ALTTP released in 1991, 22 years prior to ALBW. So seeing that Hyrule again after so long was highly nostalgic for a lot of people.

3.) It is also a world depicted through decades of console hardware advancements, going from 2D to 3D.
BOTW2 uses essentially the exact same game engine.

If ALBW was released on SNES a few years after ALTP, and the story took place in the same Hyrule soon after the original ended, the things I mentioned above would not have been a factor, and the reception of the game would have been different.

As for BOTW2, I don't know how much they plan on reusing the same, or similar terrain from the first game, but they could introduce a lot of new areas where you'll spend more time than re-treading old ground. For example, the majority of the game may take place underground, in brand new locations.

Your argument here banks a lot on people just liking the game from nostalgia and ignores the game's own merits a lot of people who never played ALTTP enjoyed ALBW so nostalgia isn't really a solid case here, it also still maintains the same top down perspective in a time when we have far superior looking games this again is banking on the nostalgia part of your argument. ALBW is a good example of that as it had people return to a familiar Hyrule but the experience is very different with a more non linear structure and key central mechanic so the way the game plays out is very different.
