Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Compares Graphics With Original Version; New Features For PC

Final Fantasy VIII released over 20 years ago and some may have forgotten what the original game looked like, so Square Enix shared a look at some comparison images for the recently announced remaster.

Here’s a look at a familiar scene with Squall and Quistis walking in Balamb Garden. The comparison shows the original Final Fantasy VIII that released for PlayStation and the remaster version announced at E3 2019.

The PC version (pictured above) of Final Fantasy VIII was able to give a shaper look thanks to DirectX anti-aliasing, but it still looked closer to the original version’s textures. Not only does the remaster version touch up on the jaggies, but it also updates Squall’s hair model. Quistis’ skirt has also been changed a bit. We can also see that the fur on Squall’s jacket is detailed to look fluffier.

Here we have a comparison showing Squall about to bust out his Renzokuken Limit. We notice right away that Squall’s face has overall been improved so we get to see more of his handsome mug, but another part that stands out is the Gunblade that now has added details. Squall’s hands have also been improved to look less blocky.

As for those who own the Steam version of Final Fantasy VIII, it already has game boosters such as High Speed Mode, AP Max, and so on, but will be adding the following functions:
- Get All Items: Get all items apart from a select few
- Get All Abilities: Learn all the abilities from all acquired G.F.
- G.F. Level MAX: Max out the levels of all acquired G.F.*
- Gil MAX: Sets Gil to maximum limit*
- Magic MAX: Sets inventory of each acquired magic spell to maximum limit*
- Get All Limit Breaks: Learn all the Limit Breaks
- Get All Cards: Get a max number of all cards other than rare cards
