Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Should Nintendo establish an Indie publishing division?

In recent years, Major game publishers have established sub-divisions specializing in games from indie developers. Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and even EA have all jumped on the train. Nintendo's been pimping indie games as a major pillar of the Switch software library, and have published SFB Games' Snipperclips during the Switch's launch. However, what if Nintendo could take it a step further by building a separate division to publish and produce indie games. Having a dedicated Indie publishing division frees up some of Nintendo's resources that could go to other projects, plus it can also help further bolster Nintendo's annual Switch output, as well as further Nintendo's relationship with indie developers.

How is that indie?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

The developer still keeps their independence. Nintendo just provides the budget and creative guidance.

If it leads to the revival of the Art Style series, then I’m all for it...

Have a nice day...

They kinda do that already, dont they?

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yeah I'm not really sure what the point is here. They DO already publish indies - that's basically what the point of "Nindies" is.

Having a specific "Nindies" division would basically mean they're published under the Nindies publisher name instead of strictly as Nintendo, but I feel like that could potentially actually be a negative.

Nindies doesn't publish games. It's just an umbrella term Nintendo uses for indie games on their platforms. What I'm suggesting is something like Devolver Digital, or Square Enix Collective, where they publish and produce games from indie studios who don't have the financial resources to self publish their own games.

I like what Nintendo does now. They allow autonomy of the indie developer in publishing while offering free aid for marketing their products.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

This is a premise that contradicts itself. Indie developers seek to publish on all platforms while Nintendo isn't interested in providing financial support for multiplats.

There are indie developers who do make exclusives though, or at least console exclusive. Switch already has quite a few exclusive indie games under its belt.
