Like I said in the other thread, this makes me think development of AoE4 under Relic hasn't been going too well. Might not see that for a while yet.

That, and Microsoft realizing that they need more studios to feed Xbox and PC with exclusive content. Also, developing in-house would certainly mean more control over where the IP is heading.

Just waiting for Microsoft to call the Studio Ensemble Studios...

I had a feeling they would need to do this at some point. They need to feed Xbox gamers with something exclusive, but that would also dampen their newly (for the 4th friggin time) branched relationship with PC gamers, so they'd need to make something exclusive for them.

MS would either have to make everything for both platforms or make something special for each of them, or simply risk losing one side again.

Happy to see them finally making another RTS studio, after years and years, but I do not want them breaking this studio down, after a few years, the way EA did with Victory Bioware.

I read a rumor that said MS was getting two new studios. This must have been the second one.

Doesn't seem at all weird to not announce this very prominently, if all they have for a product is "Definitive Edition" with new scenario.
If development of new version was hitting problems, they very well may be planning to toss out much of that work to start over fresh.
People complain about announcing games too far in advance of release date, yet when MS doesn't do that, they still complain. LOL

But... why?

They already had an AoE studio and closed them down. They should have just kept them in the first place

For a while, Microsoft's gaming division was shifting to focus heavily on Xbox consoles and they were moving away from PC. At the same time, the Age of Empires brand had been in a lull. Given those two facts, it made sense at the time.

Now they're shifting their focus into multiplat and PC again, and interest in AoE has been growing again, so it somewhat makes sense, again, to reverse that decision.

Microsoft gaming division had different leadership at the time Ensemble was closed. MS was shifting their focus away from PC to Xbox after their Windows Vista gaming plans had flopped. Ensemble had just used a ton of money making the Halo MMO that got cancelled, Halo Wars hadn't performed as well as MS had wanted it to, and the last AoE game, AoE 3, hadn't performed as well as AoE 2. They were just an easy target for MS at the time.

Please, please, please figure out a way to do decent RTS on the XBOX platform... I want to play console RTS. Yes, I know it is not optimal, but I use computer stuff for doing work, not games.

I would not mind an Xbox mini :) I want to be able to plug my Steel Battalion controller on it and play Brute Force!

Halo Wars is probably the best RTS game we are going to get on console, simplified+large base building, small unit groups... All designed for the controllers restrictions in mind.
Before that... StarCraft 64 was a solid effort which implemented a ton of automation, but the micro-management still existed which made it a downright chore.

I don't know why I keep buying up every RTS game that comes for console though, I guess I am glutten for punishment?

PC is where it is at for RTS.

Although, I would not be against the idea of Homeworld 1+2+3 being ported to console... I think that might do okay.

I think it's down to piqued interest, because I share that same sentiment as you do. I'm curious as to seeing what they would do, to put an RTS on a console. WIth the previous modern C&C games, it was the unit cap and fps cut, but what could they have done to fit say, C&C 4 onto consoles, since that was already unit capped on PC, and wasn't visually demanding.

Xbox version... please.
