Playtonic had an announcement for a new game and it seems to be a sequel to Yooka Layee however this time its a side scroller Donkey Kong Country styled game.

Yooka Layee Impossible Lair has been announced for PS4, PC, Switch and Xbox.

A 2D sidescroller? I don't know, you'd think that after all the feedback and all the finished assets, they could make a real sequel to Yooka Layle and show a decent improvement over the original. This looks more like a spinoff than a sequel.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Shame, I thought this would be a proper sequel. Really liked the game.

Considering the first game wasn't well received, I guess they have to change it up and maybe they will find success in the side scroller genre.

I am excited about this but I do wish they would have stuck with 3D. They might just be afraid of somehow getting it wrong again. I need to go back and play the original since I think they fixed the control issues.

I like the look of this. Still need to dig into the original.

Really enjoyed the first game, wish this was a proper sequel not a 2d platformer. But I'll probably play it still.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

I'm looking forward to it, Playtonic hace made no secret that they wouldn't go straight into a proper sequel to Yooka Laylee. They want to broaden their brand before going for Tooka Laylee. I'm glad they will be trying their hand at other genres since I always liked how varied Rare used to be.

Physical versions confirmed, including for Switch: https://www.playtonicgames.com/new-game-yooka-laylee-and-the-impossible-lair/

I am really quite keen for this; for all its imperfections I enjoyed the first Yooka Laylee, and this looks like a fun spinoff.

Plus new David Wise music is always welcome.

Day 1 for moi.

Anyone know if the original is enjoyable to play yet? I was so looking forward to it, but then heard all the bad things about controls and still haven't played it.
