Forums - Sony Discussion - Blood & Truth PSVR. 80 Opencritic / 81 Metacritic.

Finished the game yesterday, and personally, I was very dissappointed. This was my most anticipated title this generation after playing The London Hiest, and it didn't even live up to that demo.

I am honestly shocked with the positivity surrounding this game. There are so many titles I have played on PSVR that are vastly better than this title.

Everything about this game just felt wrong. The graphics are a step down from The London Hiest, the characters are very poor. I was expecting this to be a showcase for PSVR in Graphics and Gameplay, but it does niether well. Stuff from more than a year ago like Farpoint and Arizona Sunshine look and play better, and they are free movement games, unlike this title.

The gun play is complete garbage. Things are so bad I thought something was wrong with my setup. I restarted my PS4, as some times I have noticed PSVR gets a bit whacky after PS4 has been on for a long time going in and out of rest mode. Then I moved the Camera trying it below my TV, on a speaker directly pointing at head level, and above the TV. None of these positions made the gunplay work in a reliable manner. I tried moving closer and further from the camera at each position, but again nothing. I went back and tried The London Hiest Demo, and played some Gun Club VR to see if I was loosing it, and both games played excellently.

On top of the gun play being poor, the whole reloading that I keep hearing so much praise for also felt broken, and when dual wielding, it is absolutely cumbersome. During a later mission in the game, I kept failing, because no matter how slowly and carefully I looked down to grab ammo with my left hand, and reload the gun in my right, the game would not engage the clip, and instead shot another character that can not be shot. Again, I thought something is wrong with my setup, so I tried restarting, and changing camera posistions again. In the end, I just resorted to holstering the weapon in my left hand, to reload the weapon in my right hand.

Outside of the terrible gameplay, I was horror stricken by the quality of the visuals, the charaters, and the acting. I am playing on PS4 Pro, and this game just looks ugly. The charaters feel dead, the detail in everything about them is vastly inferior to that of even The London Hiest demo. I did not connect at all with the performances of most of the cast, which is something I have found really hard to do in VR, but somehow, even with the magic of VR putting me right there with these charaters I felt nothing from most of the performances.

I am honestly stunned by what I have experienced from Blood and Truth. With years of development time, comming from a major SIEWWS dev, and having a strong push from Sony, I was expecting a showcase for PSVR, and an example for all VR titles. Instead, what I found was something that felt more like a launch title, than something comming almost 3 years into the products life. As I mentioned above, I have played many titles that looked and played better. Personally, I would not recommend Blood and Truth. If you are looking for a good shooting game for PSVR, look at Raw Data, Gun Club, Arizona Sunshine, or Farpoint.

My final score: 4.5/10

Guess your expectations needed tempering  I went in expecting Time crisis spliced with a gangsta film aand I got so, so much more than that. I a true gem of a game.

Maybe I had a little to high of hopes, but even if it was just 6 hours of The London Hiest I would have been happy. I knew it was going to be a linear, on rails experiences. I had thought since it was going to be so focused, that it would be a better looking and playing experience than some of the more ambitious titles. The biggest dissappointment to me is that it falls short of The London Hiest demo on every aspect. The London Hiest is still one of my favorite experiences in VR, it looks great, plays great, and really portrays the emotion of the charaters. Blood and Truth just doesn't live up to the demo in any aspect.

For me, Blood and Truth is the most dissappointing title since Doom VFR. Both games feel broken to me. Gun Play has been done so well in so many titles, that when I play a game like B&T or DoomVFR where it doesn't feel natural, it totally ruins the experience for me.

If you liked it though, I am glad it offered what you were looking for. From the reviews it seems more people are happy with the game than not. If that helps move VR, and get more people on the medium, I am all for it. I know we all enjoy different things, and I've been on both sides, thinking a game that is praised is terrible, and a game that is trashed is one of my favorites. That's why the best thing to do is play the games that look interesting for yourself.

Now I'm moving on to Trover Saves the Universe. So far I am enjoying it. Is that a title your looking at?

I'll be buying Trover indeed as soon as blood & truth stops pumping threw my veins. Looks good.

How do you play exactly? Sitting, standing? Have you collaborated the reloading and holster positions? Is your camera chest height with a slight tip down so you can extend your arms and still have the headset tracked instead of being obscured by your moves? Are you usong moves or DS4?

Considering how PSVR games are regarded I would say 80+ Meta is a very good score.

Not a great week exactly but it is a feat none the less.

So far I am really enjoying Trover. It is kind of Astro Bot with a story. If you like Rick and Morty and Astro Bot, it should be a good time.

I went through every variation of sitting standing, camera position, and a bunch of calibrating, but I just can't get the game feeling right. It reminds my of Doom VFR, which is the only other title I have played that just felt wrong. Going back to The London Hiest on PlayStation Worlds, I am having no issues. I don't know what is different, but Blood and Truth just isn't working for me. I battled though it, because I wanted to see everything they had on offer before I made a final judgement, but in the end, with the gameplay not feeling right, it just wrecked my experience.

I will go back to it, because I want to tackle some more of the Trophies. Maybe they will do a patch later that fixes whatever I am experiencing.

Yeah, Trover looks really good, I'll probably download that tomorrow and tuck in, I wanna grab that B&T platinum first.

That's odd, I found it to be the best controlling PSVR game to date, gun focused anyway, maybe only one upped by Blasters of the universe but that is a strictly stationary ecperience. For me not even Gun club VR which is purely focused on guns matched B&T, noy once hqve I encountered any serious tracking or control issues outside of some of the climbing sections.

I have moved my PS PRO to a room with a black out blind however for Everbodies golf percision and have three locations fixed for the camera, B&T works best at chest level. Although I played my first run through standing I've also played sitting for cleaning up collectibles and had zero issues.

I played though Trover last week... loved every minute of it. One of the funniest games I ever played.

Today I wanted to play a bit Firewall Zero, but it was much too warm to put on a VR headset for more than a few minutes? Of course Sony chose one of the hottest weekends ever (in Germany) for the free trial weekend of a VR game.

Blood & Truth will have to wait until the temperatures are down at least 10 degrees.
