Dynamax may cause me not to buy this. The idea that any Pokemon can just power up like that is absurd to me and ruins the uniqueness of mega stones, which they already ruined with z moves. I also don't like them getting massive like that, they looked like giant balloons rather than Pokemon.

Dynamax do reminds those training balloons from XY

Yeah, I just can't shake the image of Pokemon parade balloons fighting each other when I look at Dynamax. Really not liking Dynamax, just seems like Z-moves 2.0 but now with giant balloon Pokemon. Really wish they would have revived Mega Evolutions instead, and given us about 30 new Mega evolutions, including the Johto starters (with a choice of both a Galar starter and a Johto starter, much like we got both a Kalos starter and a Kanto starter in gen 6). Then for the gen 4 remake in a few years we could have got Mega's for the Sinnoh starters, and so on and so forth in the future until all of the starters have Mega's.

People are saying Dynamax might only be available during Gym battles and Raid Battles. Bevause there is a section where they said the Staidum is built for the pokemons to turn big.

I hope it is true because that would be crazy using it in the wild.

If it is out of the competitive game and normal gameplay it's something.

But they already said you'll need to do raid battles to capture some pokemon...

The disco ball pokeball to use on them was cool, at least.

I think the raid battles will be used for special events. Like in Pokemon Go there are certain events where they put legendaries through raid battles for like 2 days.

Maybe not in the wild, but it sure looks like it can be used in online, and well, that's bad enough.

I wish someone could just talk some fucking sense into Game Freak. Mostly everyone likes Mega Evolutions and dislikes the gimmicks that came later. Is it that hard to stop shoehorning dumb gimmicks into the game and give people something that's actually, you know, good?

That would suck. I hope there will be different modes/options for it. And I feel like they are using these gimmicks for the younger audience. I for one will like this one because visuals will be nice to look at.

Yeah, of course they're using them for the younger audience, that's why they're so stupid. Also, what visuals are you talking about? It's literally the same thing only larger and with red shading. And weird looking clouds. Yeah I suppose the move animations are more stylish, but that's nothing they couldn't have done without the whole Dynamax bullcrap.

That said, given your... questionable choice of avatar, I'm not sure this is worth discussing much over.

I really don't understand why we can't just have megas be continued? I cut GF a lot of flack and don't like to hate on them as much as a lot of fans do, but do they really have that little awareness of how well received megas are in the fanbase and how poorly received these other gimmicks since have been? Everyone wants new megas and there's so much cool potential on the table there. That is probably the only thing that really irritates me about these games so far. Unless Megas are back. But Dynamax still looks really, really dumb and pointless though.

Megas won't be back. They've said a long time ago that they were going to have new different gimmicks every generation, and that Mega Evolution was a Kalos thing (well, I suppose Hoenn too). As lame as Dynamax is, I can't justify the general disappointment, because it was telegraphed, and I don't think the situation will change anytime soon. As long as Shigeru Ohmori remains director, the Pokémon franchise will be in terrible hands - heck, at this point I'd say Game Freak as a whole is bad, why can't they just turn the whole thing over to more talented developers? No one knows, I guess, but it is what it is. I already knew we were getting a new stupid gimmick, so I had low expectations, and haven't been underwhelmed by this game so far, knowing how bad the vision can be at Game Freak.

Pokemon Sword and Shield Leak for those interested. This guy posted accurate details that were revealed in yesterday's direct two weeks before the direct, so he is very likely legit. Underlined everything he got right, corrected a few typos, and posted some personal speculation in parenthesis:

Spoiler!

Your rival is named Hop, but you will also be facing off against Bede and Marnie

Team Yell is the gang in this game, who are well meaning fans of Marnie causing trouble (Soccer hooligan themed team?)

To become part of the gym challenge, you will have to get an endorsement. Bede gets an endorsement from Chairman Rose and his secretary Oleana

Eternatus is the evil legendary. The other legendary will be a wolf, who will either have a shield mane or hold a sword like Great Wolf Sif. Don't recall its name (yesterday's trailer did hint at a 3rd legendary when Zacian and Zamzenta stood back to back at the end of the trailer, as if preparing to face an attack from a 3rd Pokemon)

Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing are new dynamics that will supersize pokemon in specific areas. Gigantamaxing is different from dynamax as it changes what the pokemon looks like. Meowth looks like long cat. Lapras gets layers like musical bars to its shell and musical notes. Pikachu looks like retro fat pikachu

Sonia is Leon's former rival who is researching the dynamax phenomenon at the behest of her grandmother and professor of the game.

Some pokemon, like Farfechtd, will get regional evolutions, like Sirfechtd. Meowth looks like a ball of spiky grey fur

Skwovet and Greedunt iirc are chipmunk pokemon who will hide in berry trees and attack randomly if you shake for too many berries. If they attack, you lose half the berries that dropped.

The fourth gym is the first Fairy type gym, led by an actress named Opal. Milo, Nessa, and Kabu are the first ones.

Before fighting the gym leaders, you have to complete the gym challenges.
- Milo has you herding sheep pokemon named Wooloo, but Pamper, electric corgi pokemon, will startle them and send them rolling elsewhere.
- Nessa has you running through a maze where water blocks the way
- Kabu requires you to catch pokemon and get 5 points, but you have to be in a party battle with another trainer who's also trying to catch it

While there is a transit system, you will have to go through the Wild Area at times, an open world biome that has a weather system and little pockets where wild pokemon dynamax and have to be beaten in a for person raid. You will randomly see nearby players and interact with them to get their league cards and items

Camping is how you play with pokemon now. You'll get two toys, a feather toy and toy pokeball, which can raise friendship. You can make curry which will raise starts and friendliness

Pokémon will not walk beside you in the overworld map

Scorbunny will have fighting moves, but is pure fire. It becomes Raboot, but I don't remember the final evolution, except that it looks like a fighter. It looks humanoid

Sobble becomes Sizzile and then Intelleon, a chameleon with a spy theme

Grookey will end up as a giant gorilla that beats a wood drum to attack.

There's a lot I'm missing, but I wasn't planning on leaking until now. I'm angry and upset, and while I liked what I saw, I didn't get too far.

The best Pokémon so far is the blue seagull who when it dives, either gets a barracuda in its mouth or a pikachu, which it launches at its enemy

I'm not reading that leak,lol.

BTW, being a more casual player makes it weird when I hear so much negativity from some for the inclusion of a gimmick like Dynamax, that imo doesn't look bad at all, I'd say some kind of pace breaker like those are necessary if you don't want your general experience to get dull fast since they can only go so far with the actual turn based formula.

Also if this means I can "piss off" a certain raccoon with my sig then I'm all for it :P

I'm sorry to say that your signature never achieved its intended purpose.

As for the "pace breaker" argument, honestly, I disagree quite a lot there. There were 5 generations of Pokémon games without that sort of thing, and they were all enjoyable (well, gen 4 not so much) because the standard Pokémon formula is just fun and it doesn't get stale too easily. I can understand how, after 15 years of it, people were finally starting to get tired, and then Mega Evolution was the perfect twist to the formula, that added a whole new layer to Pokémon battles and was just a very cool thing in general with the new designs and all. Everyone digged it, and wanted - no, expected - it to keep going.

Comparatively, Z-Moves and Dynamax are incredibly shallow and feel forced. They add nothing interesting to the franchise or its gameplay, and are, as you put it yourself, pace breakers. Shoehorning a lazy and annoying gimmick in several portions of the game that could easily do without them only serves that purpose, to break the pace, break the immersion, break the fun. It's lame, and it's something all of these Shigeru Ohmori games have excelled at doing: forcing unwanted content onto the player. It was the forced legendary encounters and stupid lore in OR/AS; the everything in Sun/Moon; and now it's Dynamax, and hopefully only Dynamax. These things just take me right out of the adventure and have me instead questioning their reason for existing. But as I've said before, this time I was already expecting it, so I'm not as annoyed as I could've been.

Hooray for 13,000.
