Forums - Gaming Discussion - Game addiction officially recognised as a disease

Sounds weird. I mean is watching too much TV or reading too many books a disease as well then...?

I'm sure that gaming addiction can be and is a disease in a small number of people.

People here feel somehow personally attacked as if this was targeted towards them.

Social security disability here I come!

Not going to happen. Gaming addiction is categorized the same as gambling addiction which means it's not recognized as a physical or mental defect. So no disability benefits.

What about the compulsive mastetbaters? I'm sure their are more people in the world that abuse their long Johns and hoohaa's than there are people who abuse games. Where is the masturbating disease?

It's called sexual addiction. Masturbation, cybersex, having multiple sexual partners, etc. are all labelled under it.

Was just trying to have a little fun but yea those types of addictions shouldn't allow disability.  It might open up the video game addiction treatment centers for HSA money.  I know you can use HSA for drug rehab.

Everyone is diseased then, everyone has a vice in life. It's human nature

It's not about vices. A lot of people make that mistake when it comes to psychiatric conditions and thus we have people out there claiming they have ADHD, OCD etc. without ever being diagnosed and having no idea, really, what they're talking about.

To be diagnosed with such a disorder, the addiction, obsession etc. has to actively hinder your daily life to the point you, or at least the people around you, can clearly notice. It needs to get to the point where you're physically, socially and mentally harming yourself because of your condition (insomnia, losing jobs / falling grades, repetitive strain injuries etc.).

The WHO is not doing this to tag the average dedicated gamer as behaviorally ill.

Saw two people in my life who pretty much destroyed theirs because they simply couldn't stop playing WoW whatever happened around them in real life.

I had times in the past where I almost went that route and only because I knew that it would happen if I ever started an MMO, I never started one in my whole life even though I was very interested in them.

Online multiplayer in games like Halo was still enough to almost destroy my future.

Thankfully I can handle it now but yeah, gaming can be pretty problematic for many because it sucks you in more than other media

This. Is. Unacceptable.

I'm tired of this C R A P!

First society takes over the youtubes with Feminazi crap, then they try to ban our adult anime entertainment because of Californians are scared of boobs and little girls, and now they're trying to say gamers are a disease!

THIS. HAS. GONE. TOO FAR!

We can still change this. We can still fix this. It's almost too late, but there's still time. Gamers ... RISE UP!
