VGC Thread Guidelines

Forums - Website Topics - VGC Thread Guidelines

Hello, VGC! After serious discussion with Moderators and Admins, I've created Thread Guidelines. Consider them a subcategory of the Forum Rules, but should be treated as Official Staff Communication (Thread Warning) and more specific than the rules. You'll generally see mods posting these, but Site Admins can use them as well. It speaks for itself, so I don't have to really go over any of the content (unless you have any questions), but it is to be taken seriously when presented in a thread. It will also be tagged as a Shortcut, so anyone can see the indicator at the top of the thread it's in (I will tag the post below just in case someone hasn't seen how those work yet ~ a lot has changed over the last few months).

I'm working with Ryuu and Talon on other things like this, but from now on, this is how Thread Warnings will be communicated.

That will do...I guess. People could miss it though. It needs some pulsating light bulbs around the border. The kind that you'd see at the entrance to a casino.

Yeah, typos fixed. I have two versions, actually...

I like the white better, but we have multiple themes so the dark one is what we're going with.

I can't quote you CGI, something really odd happens when I try. But for the record, I do prefer the dark one. I find it much easier to read.

TalonMan should update the Shortcuts function and make the word "Shortcuts" automatically appear in red when a moderator or admin has submitted a red shortcut. As it is, I don't think people will bother to open the drop-down menu for shortcuts every time they visit a thread to check if maybe a moderator note has been put somewhere at some point. Turning the word "Shortcuts" red would signal that there is a moderator note among the shortcuts, so it would become much more likely that people take the time to open the drop-down menu and read the post in question. Especially the heated threads where a thread warning is necessary move faster than the average thread and therefore a moderator note can quickly get lost.

Another important thing is that a moderator who posts that image should name the people who are the reason why it is posted. Without anything else being said, it's easy to assume for either side of an argument that the moderator is only calling for the other side to behave, because people have the habit to believe that they are the good guys. Then there are also people who find themselves in the middle of a mess and can be inclined to believe that they are part of the problem, even though they've done nothing wrong. A bit more clarity can go a long way in getting any given situation under control, and immediate clarity should be mandatory when point 5 on the list is something that the mod team insists on.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

I agree with a good bit of this. I'll be taking it into consideration.
