Sorry, it's about an hour long, but actually pretty interesting.

If it were Phil Fish I'd go to the video just to thumbs down and leave a threatening comment. But Jonathan Blow? Interesting. Will try to watch later

Yeah, it is pretty long, but I think it is an interesting line of thinking.

Phil Fish took a huge dump on all Japanese developers a few years back, and just comes off as a rude child in general. I'm glad he retired from the industry so I won't accidentally read about something he said anymore. Maybe Blow said some crappy things too though? Ha. :)

Pretty good so far 10 mins in. I'm a history buff so nothing new really but still enjoyable. First part is mainly about space program degenerating then making come back. Then goes onto things like Greek fire and color changing roman glass. I know plenty about greek fire but first heard about the special glass

Just got them two mixed up.  If it was Fish I wouldn't have given video a try.  Don't think Blow ever exploded like a man baby before.  Fish has to be one of the most hated video game developer.

And he has a point there. Probably most of us who aren't into history think that things progress more or less. I also get into this thinking again and again, although I already know better. I know that the breakdown of the roman empire was happening together with a loss of technological knowledge and things getting more and more localized known, the exchange of information broke down. This lead to the dark ages for about 1000 years until things started to get back to the technological level that once was there. I think that is why the renaisance was a thing, because people back then realized they just got to the level that was reached once before.

We should know from history that civilizations can fall down. We shouldn't think we are immune.

Yea I can even witness the failed knowledge transfer at my work. I do ICT (in circuit testing) and there are two main types of testers genrad and HP. Most new boards are tested on HPs even though genrad can test more. So had a recent eng retire who was genrad expert and company is left with engs with less genrad skills. He tried to train another technician but of course he isnt even really eng and not all knowledge could be passed down. So now we are left with one eng and one technician with limited knowledge. Guess not big deal now since only customer left Teradyne is going to lower cost country

Finally finished it. Was pretty interesting. He lost me a little bit when talking about some of the programming but he made the overall points easy to understand which is good considering it was about trying to simplify things
