"The unabated popularity of Minecraft is simply staggering. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Microsoft have announced that it’s now sold a staggering 176 million copies, putting on an extra 20 million in the seven months since MineCon last September.

That new figure is important, because it surpasses the last known figure for Tetris, which stood at 170 million as of 2010 – 70 million physical and 100 million mobile downloads. Of course, Tetris sales haven’t stood still since then, with recent iterations such as Tetris Effect and Tetris 99 adding to that figure, but the rate at which Minecraft has been selling, it’s almost sure to surpass the classic puzzler sooner rather than later. The fact that Microsoft aren’t currently stating that it’s the best selling game of all time means that they aren’t there just yet."

The sales numbers came with the full unveil of the new Minecraft Earth AR mobile game. It's one of my favorite games so i'm glad it's now number one.

I played this game to pieces like 8 years ago, absolutely loved it. Glad to see it's still going strong.

Best selling or not it deserves those sales. Incredible game and after ten years still getting updated for free. While 1.14 has been just released can't wait till 1.15 ^^'.

Imagine how nuts a Minecraft 2 would push Xbox sales if it was an exclusive or timed exclusive?

But props to Mojang, Notch and Microsoft, well deserved success.

Its a crazy game. I remember playing the beta a decade ago and hating it. Some how i played it again on the WiiU and Xbox (Cannot remember which came first for me) and i got hooked. The Game has come along way and well deserved to those behind the scenes. Its not easy making a game last for acouple of years let alone a decade.

Minecraft 2? Na. Maybe a large expansion exclusive to xbox I could see. I don't think they'll ever be a Minecraft 2.

I don't know why the numerous versions of Tetris are counted all as one game. They are different version, thus should be counted individually

Aren't there also differences between the various versions of Minecraft across consoles and portables?

congrats to Minecraft, it's really about one of the only games I can think of at this point that can come close to being timeless, as there's always new things to do still despite how old it is at this point and as more people grow up they will continue to discover it for years to come

Congrats. Personally I've never played it because honestly its visuals turn me off (and I'm one of those persons who don't care that much about graphics).
