Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Blizzard “super-happy” with Diablo III on Switch, more Nintendo collaborations possible

Speaking with GamesBeat, Blizzard head J. Allen Brack was asked about what it was like working with Nintendo, and how Diablo III turned out on Switch. Brack shared the following:

“We’re super-happy. Nintendo’s been a great partner. We’re a fan of that platform, a fan of Nintendo, a fan of the Nintendo IP, a fan of the Switch. It’s a really good platform and it’s really fun to play on. Different games have come about that are good experiences. Part of it is Nintendo love, plus thinking that the Diablo experience would be great on that platform. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I loved it.”

As a follow up on the comments above, Brack was then asked about the possibility of other collaborations with Nintendo. In response, Brack said:

“It’s not ridiculous. We’d like to have – we think of it as another platform. It has some unique properties that the Xbox and Sony platforms don’t have. Thinking about what games make sense for that type of console is something we’ll never stop doing.”

Nintendo has really put themselves in so many companies' good graces this generation it's crazy. I think it's also partly that these developers have seen over the past few generations that you can never count Nintendo out and they're always worth a decent gamble. It helps that for so many of these developers that it has paid off in spades. Of course, most of this is because they are releasing great ports that show they took the time to make it right and that they're showing respect Nintendo gamers and their expectations. We don't need games to look super amazing, but we do want the games to be fully featured and not buggy as hell.

I'm sure it won't be the only Blizzard game from last generation to be ported to the Switch.

I think it's more that the NS' hybrid form factor puts it in two markets and it has one market mainly to itself and the third party output retains value in this particular market even if a port is late and has compromises giving third parties more success than they expect as people are willing to get the NS version or even double dip due to portability.

Nintendo fans have had ports to choose from in the past but have declined.  This generation has been different, and that's because Nintendo fans are buying these games, and they're buying them because they're getting solid ratings from reviewers and Digital Foundry.  I'm not going to say that your reasoning is flawed, because it's obviously not and probably weighs the heaviest, but Nintendo fans don't gobble up every third party game just because it's "popular" or was the thing to buy last generation.  They're picky and discerning and the developers are aware of this.

I am willing to believe this PR because the past has shown that the words of third parties can be trusted.

I am willing to believe your optimism because your history shows you always write exactly what you feel.

It's just PR talk.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they ported Overwatch or Hearthstone. It's probably not that big of an effort for them.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I'm torned up on Nintendo's position with 3rd parties. The Switch has definitively proved itself as a magnific software seller, and even those companies in doubt show very decent numbers. and yet, many companies barely bring anything other than old ports or small projects. EA barely ported anything but FIFAs and a couple of indies, Activision brought the Crash games and Diablo III, Atlus has brought nothing concrete as of yet (though Sega has done quite a lot), Capcom has been its usual Capcom...

You know it deserves the GOTY.
