Introducing Thread Shortcuts

Forums - Website Topics - Introducing Thread Shortcuts

@Ryuu96 and a few others, requested a new feature to allow for shortcut "jumps" through especially long threads - this functionality is now available, and it is pretty straight-forward in order to use:

 - the only people who will be able to create shortcuts in threads are: Moderators, SiteAdmin, and the original author of the thread

 - Moderators, SiteAdmin, and the original author will see a new Create Shortcut button towards the bottom of each post (next to the Edit, Reply, etc.).

 - Clicking on Create Shortcut will open a text field in order to enter a Title for the shortcut - this is the description that other users will see, when looking at the shortcut list

 - Once you've submitted the shortcut, a drop-down box will appear at the top of each thread page (next to the "Subscribe to Thread" link).

 - Users will then be able to hit the drop-down, select the shortcut they're interested in, and be brought directly to that post.

 - Moderators, SiteAdmin, and the original author can also delete shortcuts at any time (the Create Shortcut button, will change to Delete Shortcut allowing for the removal of any shortcut).

You know the drill - any problems, suggestions, or comments - bang 'em here!!

I just noticed this at http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=240037

I see the button but I'm not the OP, admin or mod that I know off

I tried it in my e-mail thread.

I can see some use of this for my super duper mega thread about Switch sales predictions. There I've created a new post for every update on top of editing the OP with each update. A dropdown menu will allow users to jump to the point in the timeline they are interested in reading without having to scroll for minutes through the original post of the thread.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

I've created a shortcut for my post in this thread right here, but when I select the shortcut in TalonMan's OP, I get redirected to my dashboard and when I return to this thread, the shortcut is gone.

This is fixed - artifact left over from the beta testing. Not sure about your other issue though regarding only new posts?? That doesn't seem correct - you sure about that?

You mean - you were attempting to create a shortcut in this thread? That was a bug (you shouldn't be allowed to see the Create Shortcut button, unless you are the Thread Owner, Moderator, or Site Admin) - see my previous response above...

Yes, I created a shortcut in this thread because the "Create a shortcut" button was on all of my own posts regardless of me being the author of a thread or not.

The button is gone now.

I think you were still working on it or something, but now it works sorta correctly on one of my own threads:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=232734

Only issue was when I opened the post I wanted to create directly, since I had them already linked in the second post the Shortcut button did not appear. I had to search for them in the thread.

OK, I tried it out in my recent thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=240094

It is one of the features I would've never thought of, but now totally need.
