Mortal Kombat Developer Diagnosed with PTSD

Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mortal Kombat Developer Diagnosed with PTSD

You know how NeatherRealm Studios has recently come under fire for allegations that it's a toxic workplace?

Well if this story is true, then it's worse than we thought.

One NeatherRealm employee, who remains anonymous for job security, says they had to use real life reference material to get the gore just right.

“You’d walk around the office and one guy would be watching hangings on YouTube, another guy would be looking at pictures of murder victims, someone else would be watching a video of a cow being slaughtered."

It got so bad that the individual in question had to go to therapy for violent dreams, and come out diagnosed with PTSD.

Apparently he's not alone, because other NeatherReam staff have reported they left suffering similar issues.

I really hope this is all just a bad joke. -_-

If true it's sad, but a part of me feels like these guys should've known what they signed up for working NeatherRealm Studios. MK games are their bread and butter.

But I don't think they expected it to go so far as to look up YouTube lynchings and cattle slaughter.

Well, how else they would find reference materials to make the fatalities? Its not like they make everything out of their imagination.

But yeah, it still sucks that they have to go through all of this.

Thought maybe it'd also be because of the alleged crunch time at NeatherRealm.

Wow, that's fucked up. I've been saying for years that NetherRealm has been taking things too far in terms of Gore and Violence, some of those fatalities are downright demented. And now we learn that they have to watch real life brutality and violence videos for reference purposes, that is just sick.

They d be lucky if they only had to watch violence on youtube. Im not sure, but i dont think there are public executions on yt.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm beginning to not wanna play Mortal Kombat 11 anymore.

I think about 4 or 5 years back someone uploaded Gadhafi's death to YouTube though.

Ed Boon said they try to make the fatalities unrealistic...
