Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Devil May Cry 1 coming to Switch this Summer

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/05/the_original_devil_may_cry_hunts_demons_on_switch_this_summer

Capcom has confirmed over on Twitter that the original chapter of Dante's long-running Devil May Cry franchise will arrive on the Nintendo Switch this Summer.

This marks the first time a game in this series will be made available on a Nintendo platform. But is Capcom playing it slightly too safe by just bringing the original outing instead of the whole PlayStation 2 trilogy to the system? Further details (like the price point) and the passing of time will certainly be bringing more information about this surprising announcement.

Apparently it´s only DMC1, not the original trilogy.

Oh fuck you Capcom

Depending on the price this isn't really that bad - if it's like $10. Could also mean you can skip and not pay for 2, which is the worst game I've ever played. If 3 comes out shortly after then no biggie.

However if it's like $20 that is a little too high and honestly screwed up. Even worse if 2 and 3 take a while to come (which I sorta doubt but who knows). Could end up being a terrible value or a decent one.

Either way great game. Low on length though.

So, a single one instead of the trilogy, at a higher price than the trilogy elsewhere, with probably a retail release limited to Japan and the US, if it gets retail at all. Classic Capcom.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

We dont know the price though. Also not sure why you would even release DMC1 physically, they'd probably just do a trilogy release st that point.

The price of the trilogy in the PS Store is 30$, I doubt Capcom is going to go lower than that (remember the Ultra SFII HD release at 40$?). And besides, if their plan is to release each game individually and then release the trilogy in a retail pack, it's still incredibly underhanded considering the games are already made, porting games so old (and games that have a perfectly working PS360 version) is not hard at all. They would just be gauging Switch users once again.

I'm not sure your point actually makes any sense. You're saying that even in a hypothetical situation where the ports and collection are appropriately priced, where the collection is completely on cart, and where the ports run fine ... it's still gouging because ... the collection comes later? That doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, if the collection comes too late after the release of 3, yeah that would suck. But assuming it's just a few months after it, I don't see the harm. I also don't know how that would be "gouging", that's not even how the term is applied when it comes to consumers. It usually means to rip off. So if you yourself are using a hypothetical where the ports are appropriately priced, your own complaint doesn't make sense. This comes off as an incredible bias against a company rather than rational thinking. You could have just said that said hypothetical situation is unlikely, which it is, and have been done with it.

Releasing games as they become ready to release onto a platform is actually pretty common for retro games to be honest. Even the MCC collection on Steam is releasing the games individually before selling them as a collection. It's a way to get games on a platform without waiting for all of the games to be ready. And to be honest, I'm not too sure if the games having ran well on PS3 or 360 matters. The issue would never be if the Switch could handle it so much as optimizing it for the specific hardware of the Switch, which yes, even old games need to do.

Either way considering DMC5 just released and Capcom isn't going to put a lot of resources on a niche franchise like DMC, it sort of seems reasonable to assume they just started porting the games to Switch a few months ago. In which case it sort of makes sense to release them individually, shouldn't wait for all the DMC hype to die down to release the game.

I think a much better point would just be that the hypothetical best scenario you are using is just incredibly unlikely - which it is. However you shouldn't write a comment as if that information is as sure of a thing as say, Persona 5 on Switch.

It would be eye gouging due to them releasing each game at 30$ and then releasing the much more valuable bundle, again, just like they did with USFII and the SF Collection. They would be abusing early buyers by getting them to buy the same content individually at a higher price before giving them the sensible option.

And as for DMC5 hype, I would say it's the opposite. Better release everything now that the iron is hot than wait until it dwindles.

At least is a mainline title.
