I wouldn't be surprised if whether it holds on or not, they'll at least give it one more console launch cycle to see how the numbers affect momentum.  Next gen should be very interesting any way you look at it and there's no way we don't have an increase in discussion regarding who to crown the winner of the next gen.  It just makes sense to let it run its course for at least the first year of that cycle to see what happens.

We'll have discussion about the winner, but eventually people will come to realize that the winner was already known long before the PS5 and Scarlett launched. Switch has the gen in the bag, the PS5 will take second place because Microsoft is shifting to streaming and doesn't put much thought into selling as many Xbox consoles as possible anymore. The state of the console market is already clear now, but it usually takes people a while before they can let go their current perception of it; right now there are still lots of people among all fanbases that believe that Sony is the uncontested leader in the console market and that it is a given that the PS5 will sell even better than the PS4.

So you predict that Switch will sell more than PS5 lifetime? Could very well happen.

How much do you think they'll sell? Personally, I predicted (in 2017) 90 million for Switch but I haven't got a clue yet as to where PS5 will end.

Lol, the example of the PS2/PS3 and Wii/WiiU should be enough for anyone to discount that success always follows success.

Though your "Switch has the gen in the bag" is misguided, you obviously don't have the information to say that. You just really want it to happen.

It's not impossible that the PS5 could be the best selling console of all time, especially if it's main direct competitor Xbox takes less of a focus on consoles and some of that CoD, Fifa, Madden market comes over to PlayStation. Equally it's not impossible that the PS5 is a failure and only sells 50m or less.

LTD Sales Predictions: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m
2019 Sales : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m
2020 Sales: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

Switch will sell more than 120m units with quite a bit of upwards potential, but that will depend on how serious Nintendo is about selling in countries where they had little to no presence before.

I can't make a good prediction for the PS5 and Scarlett yet, because it has yet to be announced how much they will cost and how much supplemental services, such as streaming, will factor into the overall gaming strategy of the respective companies in the coming years. What's certain is that Microsoft won't commit blunders on the level of the Xbox One, so Sony has stronger competition on top of Switch being a known entity already. The PS4 had it very easy against the Xbox One and Wii U, the PS5 won't have the same luxury, so I don't expect the PS5 to sell as much as the PS4. I can't see Microsoft making any serious changes to sell more consoles in Japan and mainland Europe, so the order in sales is Switch first, PS5 second and Scarlett last.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

any news on where VGchartz went for the last 24 hours? Kinda strange for a site to just go offline for a while like that isn't it?

The lack of a Stickied Thread explaining the outage or at least acknowledging it was kind of a surprise to me.  VGC has been doing so much lately to make the site better and I just kind of expected some sort of post to let us all know what happened.

The administrator didn't get an email as the site wasn't technically down, just running really slowly. As soon as he realized it was down he reset the servers. In the future if I see the site running super slow I will be letting him know.

I've certainly noticed this place is less active than when I last visited regularly. Lack of sales and most all users I like being gone are reasons why I also dropped off, I just came back for E3 specifically to see conference times, and back again now cause I wanted to talk about Fire Emblem Three Houses and see what others think of it. In my case it's not solely the fault of the site itself, I've become more of a recluse in general even online. Maybe I'll try to post more, but overall no idea what can be done to solve this. I've made some wild memories here good and bad so I'd rather not see this site die. D:

Honestly there's not really much that can be done right now... at least I'd say not anyway. This gen as a whole has been pretty stale, there's been very little competition and I guess us losing the weekly sales has made some people quieten down too. Let's just hope next gen will see a growth of new and old users!

It's been pretty bad this week, hasn't it.
