Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS Now vs Xbox Gamepass in revenue. What to believe?

Well in terms of revenue PS Now could well be above gamepass. I mean, you don't have to be a susbscriber. You can effectively rent streams on it as well, right? So there could be plenty of people just temporarily paying for specific games rather than becoming subscribers. I don't believe that's possible for gamepass.

But yeah, gamepass is the superior service, I'll 100% agree with that. As far as I'm concerned PS Now is a piece of trash. Actually downloading games instead of just streaming them is leagues better. Although I'd still say gamepass is woefully inferior to actually owning games.

They don't do the rental thing anymore and that was overpriced.

PS Now actually does let you download games now, which is a great feature to add. That doesn't include PS3 though, that's still streaming.

I just noticed the pricing for PS Now is really odd. $20 if you subscribe monthly, but only $99 for a whole year. The monthly price is ridiculous. MS's new subscription service will only be $15 a month for Gamepass and Gold.

My feeling is I can use Gamepass to play new games at launch so my subscription is gonna keep going. If I feel I really want to own those games, I'll buy them later when they're really cheap.

We need to understand that Gamepass is still only exclusive to the X1 where as PSNow is available to PC.
Comparisons should be made once both are available on the same platform.

If you're a Gamepass subscriber there are games you can access on PC. That includes Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War games, some 3rd party games, etc. Its not hundreds of games like on Xbox, but Gamepass is and has always been on PC.

Its possible Gamepass is more successful on PC just because those games operate natively and its day one content. But I can only speculate.

I mean...
Do you know that revenue and subscribers numbers are... two different things?
Or popularity and quality?

Your post reads amateurish and biased.

For PSNow we have actual subscribers data from Sony, and revenue data (for the US) from a third party.
The picture is a successful enough service in a pretty small pond.

For XBox we have the same revenue data, and the head of XBox claiming "millions" use it.
Assuming that's true, PSNow is still the more successful service.

To judge popularity, we'd still need official numbers from MS, plus to consider that the service was dirt cheap for months.
This could lead to a few months with heavily inflated numbers, which is good if you're trying to show success, but will cause lower revenue.

Wait, Gamepass is a streaming service?

If not, why are you comparing apples and oranges? What's next, the comparison between PSN and Apple Store?

Gamepass has some really good, really new content, lets you download 100% of the time, and has discounts in case you want to buy. If I didn't already buy every game that I wanted, I'd jump on it.

I've always been lukewarm about the PSNow service. They've done things to improve it but it just doesn't speak to me.

No idea who to believe but I could see gamepass being a bit hit. They really have been pushing it and the gaming media seems to be behind it, as well.

Now it turns out PS Now apparently has 700K subscribers...

Try to at least comprehend what you read.

The (average) annual INCREASE in subscribers is 700k.

The numbers are a little confusing, I'll agree, but I don't think that marketshare claim was even counting Gamepass because it isn't a streaming service, while PS Now is. So likely the numbers do work out, but only because Sony has never compared PS Now to Gamepass when making its claims about competitors. Now when xCloud releases, that will have to change.

You know there are over 200 games for download on PS Now, right?

The thing we need to take into account is PSNow is not a world wide service yet.. and GamePass is in its extreme infancy on PC. Both are very hard to compare. PSNow has been on the market for years so those nunbers do seem alittle low for its timeframe as with Gamepass seems like its doing better at early ages. Also both are different services, PSNow is a streaming service, Gamepass is just a game bundle so far.

Meh. Gamepass is better just because it allows all its games to be download. That said , I aint suporting game pass nor ps now. I buy all the games that I want to play day one. If I dont buy it day one, chances I already got it on sale creating a huge backlog of games. There is no need for me to waste $10 on something I aint gonna use when I cant keep up with the games I got. Same with ps now plus I dont want to support game streaming.
