Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS Now vs Xbox Gamepass in revenue. What to believe?

Tagged games:

I believe Gamepass has millions of subscribers simply because Phil Spencer claimed so...

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-game-pass-has-millions-of-subscribers/1100-6463276/

It makes sense to me, new games launch on the service. Since it started they added almost every 1st party game along with new games on day one.

So we had data last year claiming PS Now was crushing competitors in revenue. I called bullshit, I didn't think that was possible. I didn't believe PS Now had millions of subscribers for old games. Others said its certainly feasible given market share, my opinion was not popular but I didn't have data to prove otherwise.

https://venturebeat.com/2018/11/07/superdata-players-who-pay-for-subscriptions-spend-45-more-on-games/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Now it turns out PS Now apparently has 700K subscribers...

In a nutshell, I think we have enough evidence to prove Gamepass has more subscribers and is the superior service! When Sony gets their balls out of their purse and gives me new games on day one, I will subscribe.

What say you?!

Phil speaks out his ass a lot.......doubt there is actually millions signed up right now. The moment that 1 dollar sub goes away people stop

If PS Now has 700,000 streaming/rental users when compared to PS+s 36 million it's clear which service is the money maker. Of course these are very different services but IMO Sony would be smart to leverage NOW as a way to enhance Plus and increase Plus subscriptions (maybe plus premium). They have the buy in with Plus to the tune of 36 million and using NOW to add value might increase Plus membership and would be worth way more that 700,000 NOW customers on their own.

The business model of streaming anything but older games really requires a huge install base to make software development affordable/profitable and a customer base in the low millions (or below) will relegate that type of service to old games and free to play, micro transaction, GAAS type software.

Yes, Gamepass is an absolutely fantastic deal for gamers, the quality and newness of the games offered with it is astonishing. It doesn't offer streaming yet (I think streaming might cost extra, but who knows), yet it still is the superior service, but .. doesn't it feel like too good a deal? I'm not sure it's sustainable to keep prices this low for what's on offer, while it seems to me that PSNow had to run with very slight deficit at most.

Superdata has been full of shit from the start.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Why would people unsubscribe to Gamepass and stay subscribed to PS Now?

I subscribe to Gamepass solely because new games launch on it, that's what sold me. They don't have anything like that to hype PS Now.

They may not lie about 'numbers'.

Gamepass has some nice perks and it seems it has a group of fans even here on vgchartz.  Being Cheap/Cheaper is not a negative thing.

Of course GamePass has more subscribers, they were/are practically giving it away for a dollar/euro per month.

So far I had a free trial month, 1 month for €1 in December and 2 months (February + March) for a sum of €2. Unfortunately I missed out on the Easter deal (3 months GamePass for €3), but I'm sure that it wasn't the last GamePass deal.

We need to understand that Gamepass is still only exclusive to the X1 where as PSNow is available to PC.
Comparisons should be made once both are available on the same platform.
