I also thought the S stands for Switch, honestly. I think both of you have a point.

I'm not sure about that point though.
I told him this earlier, but he either didn't see my comment or ignored it.

Dragon Quest XI S received a subtitle to highlight that it's an enhanced version with a lot of additional content that separates it from the original 2017 game in a substantial way.

But if Atlus were to announce a P5 port to Switch around this time, it would naturally be the same game as Royal. Which is why people didn't think they'd give the same game two different titles. A couple of potential Nintendo DLC costumes wouldn't warrant a name change imo.

I din't ignore it, but let's be aware that at one point we didn't know what either Royal or now this thing were going to be. R could've been the enhanced edition for PlayStation systems and S for Switch, scheduled to release after R and thus the name change. Who knows. On top of that, people also were ignorant of what you say or simply short sighted: Persona 5 S, ok Dragon Quest XI S exists, therefore P5S is the Switch version! That's exactly what I saw.

Atlus knew what they were doing giving it the codename of P5S. Shame on them.

S as in.. Scramble. Or strikers?  like R for Royal,  and G for Golden. But sure blame ATLUS because a bunch of salty fans saw an S and lost their mind?

IF they put an A would they be at fault if people thought it was coming to Apple?

M for Mac? X for Xbox? M for Microsoft? N for Nintendo?

P for Pepsi, C for coke?

Hell look at their pattern. We have Person 3 portable, Persona Q, Persona Royal, and Persona Striker.

P,Q,R,S.  Accidental or intentional?

So... next up Persona Triforce.

Well looks like I'll continue to not know what I'm missing out on. Actually, I'm more likely to buy a warriors game anyway, ad I loved Hyrule and mildly enjoyed Fire emblem Warriors.

hahahahah oh man

okay now stop port begging ... pleasee :D

Why? Persona 5 and Witcher 3 are actually the only games I really want that are on PS4. Not enough to justify a PS4 purchase. So a port would be very welcome.

Port begging is usual and justified. It goes the other way around too: think of Monster Hunter 3 and 4 or Bayonetta.

I was always fairly sure that P5 would end up on Swith, but not because of Joker in Smash. While I think it increased the chance, I didn't think his inclusion meant it has to happen. A lot of different companies want to collaborate with Persona 5. Fashion brands, popular Japanese mobile games like Granblue Fantasy and Puzzle & Dragon, and studios like Omega Force and (probably) Arcsys.

Atlus had put the previous Persona games on the most relevant handheld (has to be able to run the game) so I thought Switch seemed like an obvious choice.

But I did not think it would be called Persona 5 Switch. Maybe 'S' if there were some substantial differences, but not Switch. If it's the same game as its PS4 counterpart then that would only cause unnecessary problems and confusion that can be easily avoided.

I went from being certain, to 'not sure' yesterday, to not expecting it anymore today.

It would have been nice if they released it on Switch because P5 deserves to expand it's audience.
But it's Atlus decision. It may still happen at some point, but for now they killed my expectations with the trailer.

Thank you, this post pretty much sums up my thoughts. I still want P5 on Switch, but it seems unlikely, after yesterday (P5 Royal infos). I didn't expected P5S to be an extended P5, after Royal turned out to be it. But still nice to get another branded Warriors, might pick it up.

Well, if we thought about such details, sure, then you are right. But both him and I fell for a very easy cognitive trap.

1. It's a game with a capital S in the title
2. The Switch exists, its name begins with a capital S
3. The game is coming to the Switch!

It's the same like saying that I have skin, and potatoes also have skin, therefore I must be a potato lol. We fell for it. It's true that the S could stand for anything and we just liked to think the simplest solution. Because hey, we can all agree that this game could run on the Switch and that it would fit with the portable aspect. We wished this to be the Switch version because there are signs pointing at a logical decision.

Yeah, I did not rule out that P5S could have been the enhanced version, until we found out what Persona 5 Royal was yesterday.
When P5R was first teased I was a bit unsure if it really was the enhanced version, because of the PS4 animation at the start of the trailer that also appeared on Atlus youtube page, which is unusual for multiplats. They'd usually have a 'clean' version on the developers site, and then Playstation can add a PS4 animation when they upload it to their Youtube channel, and Xbox can add an Xbox animation to it when they upload it to theirs, etc.

And I thought P5 would probably come to Switch, because they have traditionally put them on the most relevant handhelds that can run them, and Joker in Smash increased the probability, and as you said, Switch can run P5 no problem, so that made me have some doubts about P5R being the enhanced version.

But it was still hard for me to imagine Atlus giving the same game two different titles, if they were announced around the same timeframe.
Though I don't fault people for thinking that way if they didn't consider the things I mentioned.

I wouldn't rule out it coming to Switch in the future, but at this point I have no particular reason to expect it.
