Good jobbo man. Now if only I remember certain names.

Ha!! Yeah, that's why this updated functionality is so much better!! Having the drop-down can help you with hints as to who it is you're looking for (and I may further tweak the lookup, to only show users that have logged in during the past 6-12 months), and ensure complete and proper username spelling...

If you're in "dark" mode, the mention will now be in a more readable color - @Ganoncrotch

We'll start here, and I can always lighten it further...    ...it's still "black" for the "standard" and "blue" themes.

seems to be functioning perfectly!! Good stuff Talon.

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

Neat. Thanks!

Good job as always!

I'm just curious if adding a mention to a post after you've posted it already through an edit will prompt the mention notification?
I'll try on myself and you now.

I didn't get a notification. Did you?

I didn't get a notification. Without digging through the code right now, I suspect that "edits" go through a different code-set, separate from the "new thread" and "quotereply" actions...    ...and I'm conflicted as to whether I would want a notification to go out on edits, anyway.

On the one hand, I can see wanting to go back and add a mention to a previous post - but on the other, I could see it as an annoyance if you went back to correct spelling or punctuation in a post, and resent notifications to people from the original post.

Ah yeah, I can see why that could easily get annoying.

The reason I'm interested in that feature is because something I do a lot on this forum (just a few hours ago was the most recent) is that I make a post, and by the time I press Submit, I see someone else replied to me, or said something I want to reply to.

So my options are to post twice in a row (and I usually dont want to do that), wait a few minutes/hours until someone else posts again so that I can post, or I copy and paste their quote into my post and reply to them there, and hope they see it even though I know they won't get an alert.

So when you added the mention system, I thought that might solve my issue. But maybe there's something else that can be done to solve it.

Yeah, like I said - it's sort of a tricky situation. I ran into it myself, with this very thread!! I discovered after the fact (when Kirby mentioned he did not get an alert from my OP), that "new threads" were going through a different code-set and therefore, didn't have the latest code for properly processing "mentions". So, after I fixed the bug, I would have liked to have simply gone back to my original post and edit/submit in order to generate the alerts - but I knew it wouldn't work.

But maybe we SHOULD always generate mention alerts, even if you're editing a post that somebody has already been alerted to - you might be editing the context or adding additional points, and WANT the people who were originally mentioned, to get another alert to see your latest edits!!

Ugh - I'm honestly stuck on this one. I could just leave the onus on the poster and say: If you leave mentions in your edited post, those users will get another alert. If you DON'T want them to get another alert, then it's on YOU to remove those mentions before submitting your edit.

Edit: Screw it, I decided to implement on edits!! Let me know if you get notified @Hiku

I saw your edit as I hit reply. And unfortunately I hit 'Back'. There was a blue indication on my Vgchartz Buddy tab, but that may be because the page didn't update due to me hitting Back. =/
Am I looking for a blue alert on on the Vgchartz buddy, or would it appear in my Notifications menu? I forgot how this worked for a sec. =p

But regarding what you said, yeah I can think of times where I've wanted to bring attention to edits I've made in my post as well.

If you change this to work after edits (which you seemingly already did) will this only apply to mentions? And there will be no additional alert for editing a post where you've quoted someone, without an @mention?

Because I was thinking that the issue with causing additional alerts due to editing grammatical errors and spelling etc could be mitigated if this only applies to mentions, because from what I see, the most common way people interact with each other is still by far the quote system. I rarely see mentions being used in comparison, so this would give @ mentions another function that would incentivize people to use it more.

You're looking for a Notification and it would show up in your notification listing as "Talon mentioned you in Mention Capability - Fixed" - or something like that. And yes, this change only applies to the mentions - it will not change the thread icon status again...

Edit: One more time...  @Hiku

Ok, in that case I did not get anything new in my Notifications menu.

I just edited my post above and added a mention aimed at you. See if you get a notification from that.
