Forums - Gaming Discussion - GPD going to switch for joys

UPDATE: After Alienware's Concept UFO made the splash at CES, I wondered what happened with this device. And from a quick search I noticed there was a further update/leak posted during my hiatus. To keep this thread current, I am updating the OP.

GPD's CEO was at it again past September uploading even more pictures of this device to Baidu. Details of the device was not given, still it looks like a tablet slightly smaller than the Switch, it could even be a phablet. Pictures below show the slots for the joycons. Also no clue if it will run Windows or Android OS, but my bet is on the latter.

GPD has made a name of itself with their portable handheld computers. Initially the company started with Android gaming devices, and it looks like GPD might be going back to its mobile roots.

The CEO of the company, Wang Wade, has shown off a prototype on Facebook that looks inspired by the Switch.

Could this be an Android or Windows device?
Joy-con inspired controls for the win!
Note the rear camera, and what appears to be a sturdy kickstand?
Look at the vent at the top, and what appears to be ports at the top?
Maybe this one can charge while in kickstand mode.

Since it won't have Nintendo games, it is pointless.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

This thing will not dent the Switch, but it does look cool. If it can do some decent PC games I might take the leap.

Their windows one is worth your investment, it's new iteration has taken on board Ryzen.

A rear-facing camera right near your fingers and not in the middle of the device?  Design failure.

You are right, should be in the middle. Just going by the placement of the camera it does looks more like a cellphone than a tablet.

Missed your post somehow, but yeah, the Win Max Ryzen device is going to be interesting!

As usual, when Nintendo is successful, everyone is copying them to death.

And then there's those times where Nintendo copies everyone else, but for the worst reasons (DLC, season passes, charging for online, charging for storage space, joycon drift issues and ignoring them for ages, creating artificial demand, poor online, slapping Roms in and calling it a day etc).

Nintendo was doing DLC before Sony even got into making consoles. Famicom had it with the modem and Famicom Disc system. SNES had it for the BS games. (hell they were also streaming games way before Onlive or Stadia) Mario Paint 64  on N64 DD had DLC. The Famicom Titler had a capture ability for video.
