For me the Switch is the best Nintendo console/handheld since the SNES.
If by the end of its lifecycle will get a new great Metroid game, a new F-Zero, a new 2D Super Mario (like S. Mario World was) plus more good RPGs (like Octopath Travelers) and other surprises, it will probably become the best EVER.

For me, I think Switch has already reached top tier for me. From my lifetime:
Top Tier: SNES, Wii, DS, Switch
Second Tier: NES
Medium tier: 3DS, N64, Gameboy, GBA
Low Tier: Wii U
Irrelevant Tier: Gamecube, Virtual Boy

Wii U would be irrelevant tier, but it had Xenoblade Chronicles X on it, which I played a great deal. Also I drew a lot on this weird application, and Earthbound. But otherwise, Wii U was irrelevant for me outside those three things.

I also created a second tier for NES, because I actually didn’t own much on the console itself - but what I did have I played A LOT. It is due to me being a kid, and NES having very poor availability until about the time SNES came out. Most of the games I did play were on emulator or virtual console, and I still am playing new NES games to this day (and I actually really enjoy) on Switch’s online service. So, I would want to put NES to the top tier.

I consoles as NES, Gameboy, SNES, N64 (despite it being a failure mainly due to cartridges), DS, Wii, and Switch - these ones emphasize Nintendo’s industry lifetime commitment to advancing how we interface with videogames. While expanding the interface, they always aim to give us the simplest way to interface with the most complexity possible. Of the core consoles I listed in this paragraph, the N64 most poorly represents this philosophy - because while it added an analog stick, it was still an overly complex controller, and it wasn’t until Wii that Nintendo regained their way.

Tbh having gamed since 89 Switch is already one of their top platforms only the SNES, GB/GBC, DS, 3DS and GBA are ahead of it right now as it stands imo but that is likely going to change in future the way things are going.

Only reason I spent more time on anything else was because I was younger.

I've owned every Nintendo home console, and I don't think it has passed any system so far. It will pass the Wii U at some point, although a good chunk of the games on the Switch are ports from the Wii U so I do not count any of those games. I feel like it will pass the Wii U and the Wii for sure, and have a chance at the N64 and Gamecube. While the N64 and Gamecube games may not hold up as well for some, those are the systems out during my prime gaming years so the memories I have with those systems make them hard to beat.

I think only the SNES is ahead of it for me.

I've owned every Nintendo home system except the N64.  I've also owned a GBA, DS and 3DS.  I also owned a Genesis and every Playstation platform except the Vita.

For me Switch is right now at #2 of all time.  Only NES is ahead.  That is a high bar from me, but Switch could do it if it keeps having solid releases throughout its lifetime.

One way I can tell how much I like a system is by how many games I buy.  The NES was the last time I bought games this quickly.  Technically I own more Wii games, but I feel like Switch is still better.  Wii has slightly better multiplayer than Switch, but Switch single player is far better than the Wii.  There are several single player games on Switch that I like better than any single player game on the Wii.  The SNES, on the other hand, had extremely good single player, but the Switch just blows it away on multiplayer games.

So currently the most games I have is 24 on my Wii (because I sell/trade the ones I don't want to keep).  That is a lot more than most other systems.  I am somewhere around 12-14 on the Switch, and I've got plenty more I want to buy.  Problem is more having time than having games that I want.  I told my daughter I had 50 NES games back in the day.  She couldn't hardly believe it because that is so much more than any other system we have.  But right now we are buying Switch games at about the same rate.  I might have 50 or more at the end that I don't want to trade/sell.  I'll have to see how it turns out.

I already consider the Switch to be my favorite system ever, but if we are defining "surpassed" as total cumulative enjoyment gained from each system, it is still a little behind the Wii U, 3DS, and DS for me, but not by much. What's impressive about that is the fact that I say this owning only 2 games on the Switch: Breath of the Wild and Smash. I think that's a testament to how good those 2 games are.

N64 remains ahead but will likely be overtaken soon, probably when Doom Eternal and/or Bayonetta 3 arrive.

The real test will be whether it can beat the Wii and SNES, which remain my two top systems of all time.

All of them. The first two years of the Switch have been the best Nintendo has possibly ever been. Maybe the first two years of the SNES can compete. But, NES, GB, VB, N64, GCN, GBA, DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U can't compete. To be fair, SNES was my first console when I was but a wee lad, so there's a lot of nostalgia to overcome. Switch might have done it, though.
