They're for the child in all of us.

In general, I don't really care about what other people think when categorizing and criticizing movies and movie genres. If someone believes that superhero movies are for children, more power to them.

In the case of the OP where someone actually brought it up to you, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably just ask your coworker the question "Why do you care?"
He's annoyed that people are excited about a subject he isn't, but nobody is forcing him to hear grown men swoon over a fight scene in the Avengers. He could either state why he believes the movie is for children (and wreck the conversation for the others) or he can ignore the conversation out right and move on. But complaining about things that other people have interest in generally shows a close minded person.

I am not too big on super hero movies myself, but if someone is talking about them, the last thing I think to myself is that grown men have no business discussing these movies.

Additionally, if I had a specific problem with a movie (maybe with a plot hole or lazy writing), I've brought it up and then started a debate on the movie's choices. That way, I could criticize something but be part of a conversation instead of the guy in the corner condemning those who are not mature enough to stand with him alone in said corner.

Superhero movies are for the adventurous child in all of us that died on me when I walked into that room with mom and dad having sex.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Better than your dad and uncle. Probably. I guess it depends.

Happened to me when I was 10. It's why I kick pigeons.

Honestly, when I come across people like that I simply just... don't care. They like what they like, I like what I like.

Video games are for kids
Cartoons are for kids
Animated movies are for kids
Super Hero movies (bar deadpool..... and the pegging) are for kids
Chocolate cake is for kids.....

I'll be honest given the things that are for adults such as smoking, alcohol, drug use...... (excluding sex because I can never get enough of that) but yeah the adult specific vices are all pretty shit in comparison to ones which are "for kids"

As for what I say to people who would argue a point like this towards me? Absolutely nothing really, I've no interest in changing the mind of someone who has already solidified it with stupid bias against someone who enjoys life, as a lifetime fan of gaming, movies, animated shows, cgi films, WWE and chocolate cake.... I have long since given up on caring that people who spend a portion of their lives looking for an area far enough away from work so they can poison themselves with smokes thinks of my pass times.

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

I mean, to each their own on interests. My crux is WW2 films but I would never judge someone on their like of those movies. If you are willing to judge me based on my interests instead of the person that I am, then I have no use for you.

Nothing...because they're entitled to their opinion. Don't spend precious time trying to convince people to respect something or rethink something. I find it's just a waste of time.

This.

Also I feel if people are going to be this judgemental over movie taste, then they have a deeper issue than I can help them with.  Generally if people get upset about something this trivial then it is really a symptom of something else.
