Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey getting VR support with Nintendo Labo

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey getting VR support with Nintendo Labo

Just Pre-Ordered my Labo VR Kit to support the cause. Mario and Zelda will be a great way to kick things off. I am hoping for Mario Kart, Metroid, and Splatoon VR later on. Those titles could really take advantage of VR.

Would be insane if Nintendo beats Sony and Microsoft to market with the first AAA Exclusive FPS.

Definitely going to wait for reviews. Skyrim VR on PS4pro was too rough on my senses.

Lol what? My PS4 pro in vr kicks out about 480p on a 4K tv.

The resolution in VR appears lower than it is because of how close the screen is.  1080p in VR is a lot closer to a 480p TV than a 1080p TV.

But still the OP said power of a console doesnt matter its the display, well why cant my PS4 Pro submit 4k then? Instead of checkerboarding, and also in VT it definately isnt 4k. Resolution on switch VR will look terrible. Simple fact.

Your Pro can't submit 4K because the PSVR screen is not 4K. It's 1080p for each eye iirc (Don't quote me on this). Saying power doesn't matter is not entirely right I guess, but even if Switch were more powerful then Xbox One X and its screen was still 720p, the power wouldn't matter at all, because of the screen resolution.

I was just thinking you could only watch replays with this.

How can you control and watch at the same time?

Maybe if you lay the cardboard on the table, plant your face in it and play away; old school Virtualboy style!

EDIT: OK, just saw this at Discord, yes it is feasible, it works.

That's still not feasible.

It is both the display and the power of the console that make a difference.

>4K in VR isn't going to look 4K.

This is responding to this:  "VR it definitely isn't 4K".  Even if the display was in 4K and the system was pushing 4K, it wouldn't look anything like 4K.

The display needs to be higher resolution in order to do the same thing as a TV, because you are a few inches from the screen.

A 1080p display in VR is closer to a 480p Television than a 1080p television.

I'm not disagreeing here.

VR requires high resolutions to make up for how close the screen is, it also requires high framerates, and GPU power to run all of it.

I'm very curious to see how well Nintendo makes it work.

They should have chosen Splatoon 2, much better fit for a VR imo.

There are dozens of hands on impressions which confirm the obvious, the resolution is absolutely workable.

“Sticking the Switch’s 720p resolution screen right up to your face has about the expected result: it’s pretty blurry, but not to a level that it impedes your enjoyment of the games”

This echoes my first experience with Oculus back 2013, no one cared. The key is that this is accessible, cheap and the experiences are fun. That’s infinitely more important for the future of VR than high res displays.

Lack of a head strap option is a way bigger problem imo, although I understand that VR Switch isn’t supposed to be something you do for hours on end.

So, is this going to be the norm for all First party single player games now ?

Hopefully if this is well received they can just make a standalone vr unit with the chipset of the rumoured Switch Pro.

The chipset is obvs mobile anyway so is suitable for that implementation and a standalone would have a better screen setup & a much better 'wear' setup.

If they could do it for 300 bucks or less I'm sure it'd sell some and would be true wireless vr, without the tethering limitations of all the other big vr sets...

They'd really need to step up with their software offerings though - though it seems like they've made a solid start with odyssey and botw!
