I'm shopping for a new router, and I need advise... BADLY!  Before I start ranting, let me give you some perimeters:

1) Primary console: PS4 Pro

2) Other primary use: 4K TV

3) Both items internet connection: Wireless

4) PS4 Pro & 4K TV located in room adjacent to room with router but going through two walls (closet).

5) House square footage: 2,700 but the router is on the most west end on the house (NOT central).

6) Budget: $150ish USD

I just bought a Netgear AC1750 R6400.  Cell phones, smart TVs, Blu-ray player, laptop, and all other consoles connect just fine (PC is hardwired).  But the PS4 Pro would not log on.  Internet connection failed every time I tried to set it up.  I spent two F*#^!@($ hours on the phone with tech support from Indian, and we still didn't get the problem resolved.  And he wants to call me back tonight.  Screw that because I don't have the time for this garbage much less trying to decipher his Indian accent (nothing against Indians mind you.).  There are other collateral issues that relate to my frustration, but that's not going to help solve any issues right now.

So unless you KNOW how to resolve the issues with my current router, recommend me another that works with the PS4 Pro with minimal hassle.  Or let me know what you're using works.

I have a NetGear AC1900 model EX7000 wifi range extender, set up to connect with my rogers cable modem through 5G, then use the normal band to connect to the extender. I didn't change any of the default settings. The ps4 pro logs on fine, however after a week of use things start slowing down and the extender starts refusing connections from other devices. Rebooting both the rogers cable modem and the extender gets me full speed again.

It works, it's not great. My ps4 pro has reported wifi speeds as low as 30 kbps, then back to 40 mbps after rebooting the modem and router. No consistency.

(It's probably too many devices, 4 laptops, ps4, ps4 pro, Switch, Wii-U, 2 printers, TV, iPhone, iPad)

I'm in a 1Bedroom apartment now and the router is dead center so my coverage is awesome throughout.

Thanks for the link.  I'm still tied to renting a cable model from my ISP.  Maybe I feel more "secure" that away, but so far I haven't any issues with it. 

FYI for everyone else,

First router: Linksys E1000 = Older technology, single band. Very reliable, no disconnects.  I've had this for like 12 years.  I did have to buy an extender for my current house.

Second router: TP-Link AC1200 = Dual Band Router.  Everything connected, but I got constant disconnects.  I've had this for less than three months.  This purchase was a mistake.  When I finally decided to return it, it was outside Amazon's window of return.

Current router: Netgear AC1750 R6400 = See original post.  This appears to be a mistake as well.  I need to look into Best Buy's return policy on opened items.

This track record sucks.  And it's getting expensive.

The "Wal-Mart" version is labeled as the R6900.  I wonder if I should take my chances on that.

I'm just going to say what I'm using, and why. I have bad experiences with cheaper routers, and playing on wifi is a 0 option for me, because it's not something I'm willing to put up with at all. However, I have the ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, which is a 400 dollar router. It came with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, for free, so kinda 60 dollars off, but kinda not, since I don't play or like CoD and wouldn't have bought the game anyway (and only played it for about an hour or so.)

Wasn't looking to get something only slightly better, or wouldn't actually work, since the old router would not maintain a wifi connection to the different streaming boxes like roku and fire sticks around the house and would just outright shut down at random. With this one, I haven't had a single problem, got a free game (although, like I said not one I like or wanted) and it has 8 Ethernet ports, though truthfully, I never have more than one console, and a single PC using 2 of them anyway.

I cannot stand playing on Wifi, and I'm so glad games are started to tell us what our opponents are using, so we can avoid them.

I also had one of those powerline adapters, and even after setting the thing up with the cell phone app, and if I'm not mistaken, that was the only simple way to configure it, it still had issues.

I used to only have 80 dollar routers, years ago, and never would have thought I'd have a 400 dollar router, but sometimes you gotta pay more to get what you need, and now that I have it, I never have to think about it, unless I just glance over and look at it.

My previous routers have been netgear, TP Link, and D-Link brands.  All gave me significant issues at some point.  Even before they just stopped working.

Have you tried a simple WLAN-repeater to extend the Wifi range?

I bought a cheap AVM Fritz WLAN Repeater 310 for €22 a few weeks ago to extend the Wifi of my Fritzbox 7490 and now I have solid internet connections in every room of our house (4 floors including the cellar) with pings between 9 and 12 ms.

I use one of the AC power adapters that lets me hardwire my connection through my house wiring. It works across breakers, I think it has to be on the same phase though.
