Forums - Nintendo Discussion - New Switch Controller Promises Voice Chat Without The App

All they really need to is make the app a bit more fleshed out and just install the damn thing on the Switch itself to run in the background.  I do not know why they are trying to over complicate something so simple.

Fortnite shows that you don't need any app to have voice chat in your games. Just need the software to have chat as a part of it . What you need for chat in that game is a headset, even nice usb headsets work fine my 7.1 set from the pc works perfectly

Yeah, Warframe is the same way.  The thing is, the Switch is  currently set up exactly how the PS3 was when it comes to voice chat.  The issue here is that MOST devs are used to the X1 and PS4 having native party chat and do not bother to add it to the game's software like that anymore.

Adding the Switch app to the Switch itself and polishing it up would be simple and something Nintendo could do their end without relying on the devs to hopefully add it in.

You will still need to use the app. I don't know what this solves!?

For Fortnite, you can just use a 4 pole aux extender, much cheaper same result.

Still need the app? Where did you read this?

How do you chat in Splatoon 2 with this?
Connect the aux to your phone?

How many games on the Switch allow chat functionality anyway? Outside of Splatoon and Fortnite I can't think of a single one...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

You do realize there are people who still buy wired controllers today, right?

People do all kinds of things. Do you know how many times I've smoked crack? Take a guess.....But TWO fuckin' wires? I might be crazy but I ain't no fool. By the way, if you ever get the chance to try crack, give it a shot. Amazing. Don't believe all the negative hype. Just, don't overdo it or make it anything more than a weekend thing in your youth and you'll be fine. Oh, and never throw your girlfriend out of a moving car.

I met this homeless guy while looking for H and him and I smoked crack for a couple hours. Every time he would take a hit, he would snap his tongue with the roof of his mouth. Eventually I asked him what that was all about, and he said "that's the whip, boy. Woo!", and took another hit.

That's a 100% true story, as much as I wish it weren't.

*shoots you several times in the legs* You'll need two wires after that.

To be fair, it's a decent option in lieu of the app, and I don't want to give it undue flak. I was legit excited about it, and posted before even looking at the product description, and then when looking at it, disappointed. At least someone's doing something to mitigate the issue some people have with the forced mechanic of the app being the sole means of using voice chat. Which itself is actually a nice option to have in some scenarios. Just not as the only option.

Oh boy! At least you're OK now though. I've dabbled in opioids, but have never tried "H". A friend of mine told me a story about how he did it in a cave on a trip to China though. Cured me of my curiosity. :)

They didn't say, but you shouldn't assume you still need the app when they haven't said anything about that.

From your source:

With the recent announcement of communications expert, Vivox, providing the development tools used to create true in-game chat with Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch, the timing is perfect for this new innovative controller.  Launching Summer 2019, our new controller features support for Vivox’s integrated in-game chat, premium game audio through a 3.5mm audio jack, patented on-board audio controls that let you adjust the audio on the fly right from your controller, two additional programmable buttons, and an interchangeable faceplate – making it the best Nintendo Switch controller for serious gamers. Simply plug in the controller, and your go-to headset, and you’re ready to start commanding your team!

They don't mention Splatoon, only Fortnite's voicechat service.
The controller is just has a usb audio converter, it's easier just to get the aux or a wireless usb headset as Ganoncrotch mentioned.

But what about all the advantages of the system as it is today? It works absolutely flawlessly.

Sarcasm: Not appreciated.

I apologize, young man!

I'm glad I don't use voice chat, or play online for that matter, I already spent like 100$ on a Pro controller for mine.
