Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 and Switch sales comparison: some things to consider

So what if you been part of both launches. I had a wii u so I didnt buy a ps4 until ratchet and clank but i bought the switch a few days after it launched because it was the only gaming portable at that time and still is. You keep saying ps4 had it easier because the competition screwed up but dont you consider ps4 also did things right. It had great games coming, good marketing and well priced. A Playstation console is always gonna sell well with all that no matter the competition

PS3 had a very rough start and the VITA was a complete bomb.  Just because something says, "playstation" does not mean it will sell.  Had MS not fumbled so bad out of the gate, we could be seeijg completely different sales numbers.  But they did so the PS4 had easy.  Those games they "had coming" did not even start to drop till 2 years after its life started.  They had nothing to do with how it launched.  In fact, it was MS that had the upper hand in that department.

There is nothing wrong with admitting that Sony had easy mode set for them at the start of the gen.

Sorry but the op is totally distraught xd.

I am a Nintendo fan first, but this smacks of excuses. Nintendo is responsible for its own lack of momentum in 2018 with the poor first party software showing they had from January-September. Frankly 2019 is not looking a lot better so far. The good news is they did not screw up the launch like 3DS or Wii U.
Is Sony on “easy mode”? Sure, but that’s also Nintendo’s fault for botching Wii U. If the only way you can beat your competition is by your *other* competition keeping them at bay, you are in trouble.
Nintendo needs to keep on banging on the third party doors and it needs to work on first party software momentum. Nintendo accidentally discovered in 2017 that a great software pipeline sells consoles, now It needs to figure out how to offer that consistently, especially for the first 18 months after launch.

Read my whole post. I said a Playstation that is well priced, good marketing and games will always do well. Ps4 had all that. Vita and ps3 didnt

Thats the point.  The competition had none of that, which put the PS4 on easy mode.

I swear you are reaching about as far as the OP when it comes to pointless logic.

Pointless? You agreed with Op that ps4 had it easier which in my opinion isnt true. Switch had 4 year old consoles to contend with and it was also the only portable system. Ps4 had to contend with newer consoles in the wii u and xbox one. Ps4 was gonna sell regardless of competition.

It's true the PS4 has a Pro model, which could sell to current PS4 owners, but the Switch offers a different kind of sales advantage to Nintendo.

Consider if you will my nephews. They share between them an Xbox 360, a PS3, and a PS4. Then they each have a Switch. Households where consoles are shared between kids are more likely to have multiple Switches than they are multiple PS4s due to the Switch's portable nature.

Yes, it's true that Switch's mobility provides incentive to own more than one but I will also say that its function as a console provides incentive not to own more than one. A Switch can be played by more than one person, a 3DS cannot.

Don't worry, Switch will get its redesign and massively inflate the sales numbers soon enough.

Yeah, very likely.

Had the competition not dropped the ball, they would have likely sold closer to PS3 lifetime.  Believe what you want, but X1 had a lot of momentum until that reveal.

And no, I do not agree with the OP trying to downplay PS4 sales using Pro sales as an excuse, just like I do not agree with you claiming the Switch had it easier than the PS4 when anyone can see that the Switch had more factors against it than the PS4 did at launch.  Stop twisting my words because you can't make a decent argument to support your claims.

I didnt say you agree with op downplaying the ps4. I said you agreed with op that ps4 had it easier at launch. You also think i said any playstation would sell well which i never said either. You're the one that twisting my words.

The PS4 being better in every way than the PS3 would have meant that the PS4 would have sold more lifetime.  How many different ways do people need to explain that.
