What??? They only count the winning votes in the whole?

That is insane,a broken system and it is far from being decently democratic.

In winner takes all system the votes of losing parties are caste away and don't count.  Basically the losers go home empty handed and have to wait till next election.

That is a system stuck in time with a need to reform and i hope it does eventually.

Wonder what the homelessness rate is going to jump to in the upcoming months. People are about to start getting mass evicted. Might start looking like the great depression with hovervilles shacks and tent cities. Guess they will be called trumpvilles or something. Maybe that is his end game. If you are homeless then you can't vote by mail ballot right?

I'm going to early vote in person myself. Although my vote most likely will not count because of winner takes all and I live in Texas. My vote has never counted for major elections. Love how they always say every vote counts. Fucking bullshit if you ask me.

The 2 worst presidents in US history have been "elected" by a minority. The system isn't just far from being "decently democratic" it's far from actually being democratic. It's a country where anti-democratic tactics are not only common, but brazenly celebrated and defended by the offending party. Imagine calling yourself a democracy when you actively try to keep people from voting.

Supposedly about 110 million people are living in rented households in the U.S.
And about 1/3rd are struggeling to to pay rent, and they expect about 1/5 to face mass evictions.

That means more than 20 million (20-28m range) "renters" will soon be without a home.
(this is from a report done by The aspens institute)

This is gonna happend once the Covid-19 Eviction defense project (CEDP) runs out.

Gerrymandering, voter suppression, unfairly drawn lines on maps, super voters,.... USA system is a mess.

It is kind of an exciting time to be a voter in Texas, as it is rapidly turning from a red state to a purple state. As of right now, Biden and Trump are virtually tied in Texas, so your vote in Texas is more important than ever.

I wouldn't call it a mess since it is working exactly as intended. And it is bound to get worse because fewer and fewer people vote Republican, so it has to be rigged more and more to level the playing field. As soon as the US gets an actual democracy the Republican party will never again hold a majority, let alone get into the White House. At that point they will have to either change or be usurped by another party that's a less extreme version of them.

I wouldn't be so sure this time around.

You might be shocked, but Biden is leading in the polls for the state right now:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statewide_opinion_polling_for_the_2020_United_States_presidential_election#Texas

https://www.270towin.com/2020-polls-biden-trump/texas/

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-general/texas/

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/tx/texas_trump_vs_biden-6818.html

It is within the margin off error though, so your vote could really make a difference this time around.

Well I'll vote because that is the main way I can try to voice my opinion. Frustrating but you can't complain unless you least vote. I'm still certain trump will carry Texas but if things keep getting worse here then who knows it might actually flip. If they can't even hold Texas then you know republicans are in deep shit.

Actually for a huge country like US, Brazil, Russia etc the electoral college makes a lot of sense. Its a long discussion, but US is mainly populated in the coasts, which is overwhelmingly blue. But since you akso need the votes for less populated states your politics neess to also address these people. The day electoral college passes in US you can be sure those states in the middle of the country will be totally forgotten and thebrepublican party will never be elected again.

Its a long discussion, but keep in mind it only makes sese because it is a huge country and with a huge unbalance of population per state.
