This is a conversation that just happened.

CaptainExplosion: "GOP blocking coronavirus bill — because it limits how much drugmakers can charge for a vaccine."

KLAMarine: [irrelevant] CE should donate to fund virus research.

Runa216: He donated with his taxes.

KLA: [tangent] Not everybody pays taxes.

CE: No way to know if my donation would go towards the goal.

KLA: [completely ignoring that CE already pays taxes] CE should hand out supplies at the airport.

CE: I live hours away from an airport.

KLA [Still ignoring that CE pays taxes] Suggesting CE is putting his own profit over people by not going several hours to an airport to hand out supplies.

CE: I don't have a car and am financially limited.

KLA: [Still ignoring that CE pays taxes and is financially limited] CE should buy a car.

Everybody: Are you F-ing serious?

KLA: [Still ignoring that CE pays taxes and is financially limited] CE should ride a bike several hours away [by car] to an airport to hand out supplies so that he don't look like he's putting his own profit over people that might die.

Everybody: Are you F-ing serious?

KLA: [Still ignoring that CE pays taxes and is financially limited] CE should hand out supplies at a bus stop to not look like he's putting his own profit over people that might die.

Yeah, this is exactly why I made the decision to stop dignifying his presence with an answer. He's so far removed from the conversation I'd just be talking to a brick in the wall.

It always seems to be right-leaning folks who have no grasp of reality when in these discussions; I'd have to do some research, but almost all the science and all the statistics and all the sociology and all the ecology and all the history backs liberals, as far as I can tell. I could be wrong, but I just see so many republicans and conservatives outright lying or twisting things to suit thier narrative. It happens on both sides, but holy shit it's so much more common on the right.

Why do you think the right often has an anti-science or anti-intellectual bias?  It's because science and philosophy doesn't fit with their narratives and agendas so they take an active stance against it.

It's funny though.  Science and philosophy do not pick a side.  Both by their function are apolitical to begin with.  So it's it is interesting when a political ideology (conservative/right) actively operates against them when science and philosophy don't actively operate for or against either side.

That's why, when asked, I identify as centrist instead of Liberal or Conservative. I don't care about agendas, I care about what's good for the world as a whole, be that society as a whole or the environment. I don't actually care about guns or religion, I just want people to do what's best for the species and the environment, long term. It just so happens to be that the groups clearly the most interested in that are always on the left. The hippies and nerds. The right, from its very definition, is about the individual and the right to freedom from government. Right-wing policies are, by their very nature, selfish. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with being selfish in many ways, but doing so at the expense of things greater than yourself makes you a parasite.

Republicans are parasites. They leech off the system while hating the system (no matter how much you try to get off the grid, you still use roads and live in this world, you're still living in a world greater than yourself), they don't care about others, they couldn't give less of a shit about the environment or minorities, all they care about is themselves, all while vocally crying about how they do it all themselves.

Newsflash Republicans: You're all living in a partially socialist nation, you don't get to pick and choose what public services and elements you sustain yourself by. The issue isn't one of morals, it's a matter of degree. as soon as you collectively realize this, the better off we'll all be.

(Also, I feel that, when talking to conservatives, I need to aggressively point out that having an opinion or stating something like this shouldn't reduce an argument to the most extreme examples. I see that entirely too often. No, just becuase I support doing what's in the best interest of the collective does NOT mean that you should give up individualism and be ants. No, I don't think that you should give up your freedom to support some communist initiative. Believe it or not, politics are nuanced and multilayered; there's a whole world of difference between anarchy and dictatorship. somewhere in the middle is where we as a society work best. The middle - which is actually where most 'left-wing' pundits and politicians lie. what you think of as the far left is only slightly to the left. Being a little on the left doesn't automatically mean the same as being a communist or dictator. the fact that I Felt the need to point this out is so remarkably exhausting, and is exactly why I'm so sick of arguing with conservatives. I see them resort to binary logic far more often than liberals. Far, FAR more often.)

Really curious what general election turnout will be like in November with caronavirus. I think whoever loses will blame the virus and have a pretty good argument. I just wished we had the tech to vote from home (and also the tech to confirm we are US citizens beforehand).

Bandorr talked about a lot of the issues.

Tom Scott goes into some more depth here:

And his previous video about electronic voting and why it's a bad thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3_0x6oaDmI

Or, like someone in the comments points out: Venezuela, known for rigging elections, is using electronic voting. I wonder why...

I genuinely don't know what point they're trying to prove in that video. Both perspectives are wholly wrong, as neither end of the spectrum is a reasonable way to handle things. Fearmongering doesn't help and neither does being callous or dismissive of a potentially significant threat. Both are wrong.

Plus, all the Trump stuff was from Fox news and the Obama stuff was, like, MSNBC and CNN? I'd have to go back and look. That might just be more about the 'news' outlets, though.

So, care to enlighten me what they're trying to say here?

Isn't it Fox news for all of it? It's showing the difference in how Fox News treats medical emergencies when a democrat or republican are in office.
