Hey! Hey! We contributed towards 300 and fought those badass wars against the Romans. ;)

Seriously, Iran has fucking sucked for decades though. Turkey is sadly going down the same path rn.

Honestly, if World War III does happen, if Iran and Turkey both end up reduced to smoldering craters, will the world really be losing anything important?

Iran is a wonderful country with wonderful people.

Don't act like a fascist prick and pretend like all of that is equal to a corrupt faction in the government. We don't hate all you Canadians because of your ruler Donald Trump.

Yes, I know how much. Less than the USA.

Doesn't excuse you siding with a nation run by wife-beating Holocaust deniers. I suppose if Canada's next prime minister was as big of a cockroach as Hassan Rouhani then you'd care about what happens to my country? That seems to be the type of leadership you like to get behind.

Quick reminder: You are talking to Rol.

Well how the fuck am I supposed to not take Rol seriously when we're on the brink of World War fucking 3?

I don't think anything will change Rol. Not even WWIII.

Trump isn't OUR leader.

All I've seen come out of Iran is state-sponsored terrorists, Holocaust denial and threats of nuclear warfare.

That's because of your ignorance of things outside of America and America Junior.

Your prejudice disgusts me.

...wealth inequality being even higher...it's like we really are in the 1920s again. -_-

Ok, I'll bite.

What is so damned wrong with wealth inequality?

So data is apparently only widely available back to 1929 (https://www.pbs.org/fmc/book/9money3.htm), but average incomes for the middle fifth of the country have risen from $15,000 in 1929 to $47,000 in 1998 (insert comment to make you mad that even a minimum wage family would earn more today than in 1929).

The average middle income family can buy three times more than in 1929.

But apparently we are more concerned with the rich being even richer yet...why are people so OBSESSED with other people having more money than them? The family that owns the company I work at is worth billions of dollars...but I live a pretty damned good life, which has seemingly got better and better over the nearly 30 years of my life. So what the hell is the big problem?

While it really isn't even part of my argument (as I'm just arguing that wealth inequality isn't that big of a deal)...we quite frankly do it to ourselves by continuing to buy the products from the giant corporations, rather than supporting local businesses (or even starting your own businesses).

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Lets remember that there weren't even social programs in the 1920s like there are now.

Many people who are jobless (or incapable of getting a job), while not living a lucrative life, literally receive more in assistance than the average income was in the 1920s.

So maybe don't compare our current situation to the 1920s lol.

Why is the acceleration of the gap a problem in an economy where everybody is better off than they were?

If I'm doing twice as good in 20 years (as are the majority of people) but we have 10 trillionaires instead of a bunch of billionaires, I quite frankly wouldnt give two shits. I don't have an issue with the business OWNERS making more money than the workers who choose to work for them, who choose to negotiate the salaries they work for, who choose to negotiate the PTO, and who quite frankly, still get a paycheck when the business is in the shitter and the owner is losing boatloads of money.

Out of curiosity, how does inflation come into play for this average income comparison between 1929 to 1998?

...

There is this assumption that every single worker is being taken advantage of, but is SO ridiculously valuable and the owners job is just so damned easy.

Start your own business then. It literally costs like $50 to claim your name through the state.

Now, if these businesses were completely boning us, and using their enormous hordes of cash to charge us ludicrous prices but also keep us from starting competing businesses, yea...the government should get involved and we have a problem. Outside of medicine (which is an entirely different discussion regarding whether it is ok), this just really doesn't happen for the normal consumer though.
