Tupac was definitely a communist since he believed in their ideology and was actively involved in communist activist groups. He just happened to also be rich from his successful career as a rapper.

I wasn't sure either, so I looked it up. Sure enough. 

Seems like it was mostly when he was younger that he was really active in that scene though. At least per the Wikipedia page:

See the early life section, just before his move to California. Beyond that, I only see some influence that it might have had on Outlawz, but that also seems to draw inspiration from dictators of all sorts, not just communist ones.
