Ys IX (PS4) first gameplay, new details

Forums - Sony Discussion - Ys IX (PS4) first gameplay, new details

Ys is one of those series that I've been meaning to try for many years and yet I've never played one. I keep asking myself if I should go back and start with the first one or just start with Ys 8.

One of those games that are PS4 exclusive because the graphics are too demanding for Switch.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Cool, the only Ys I've ever played was the very first on the Sega Master System (and not that much) and the series has always been on my radar.

You should play the rest - its a great series.

Story isnt as strong as a Final Fantasy but the gameplay and music is great.

I played and finished so far....

Ys Origin (Steam/PC)
Ys I (Steam/PC)
Ys II (Steam/PC)
Ys Oath in Felghana (Steam/PC)

Going through Ys VI Ark of Naphitism (Steam/PC) right now.

I'm thinking about double dipping Ys Origin on PS4 in the future, its a good price tag (I think the lowest last sale was $7.99).

Going to get Ys Seven and Memories of Celceta on PC during the summer sale or winter sale later this year.

I would love if they ever released a big collection of all games someday.

The series has streached on too many systems.

I know they make remakes, but I want all the originals, as dated as they may be, on a single place.

I remember the first game being pretty decent graphically for 3rd gen, with good level design for that era, with "big" towns and nice designs.

But the worse thing was the gameplay, it was so much grinding to do anything, lol.

The only way you will be able to play the originals are through emulation.

I also doubt that they'll have all of the Ys games under one console platform (unless b/c is in the works for PS5) - the closest is PC (through Steam and GOG which has Ys Origin, I, II, Oath in Felghana, Ark of Naphitism, Memories of Celceta, VII and VIII).

And yes Ys I and II have the worst gameplay where you have to bump into the enemies. Even the remakes are like that (PSP and PC).

Out of all the ones I played and finished - Ys Origin and Oath in Felghana are the best.

Memories of Celceta is coming to PS4 as well. Falcom makes great games, but damn do they suck at getting their games to the west. Games come late, come to unpopular systems, or get bad translations.

Yep for Japan.

Still need to release it to the west.

Alongside Ys I/II, Oath in Felghana and Seven.

Graphic are certainly still Ys 8 level. Not every game needs to be a looker though. Hopefully Ys 9 is a lot better than 8. Since 8 had such a slow and boring start.

I'm not so sure focusing on cities will really help the series, but hopefully the new traversal options encourages them to put more time into the level designs. And what ever you do, don't mess up how awesome all the bosses were.

For why no Switch version yet? They want NISA America to foot the porting bill again. Even though the Switch version was basically on par with sales of the PS4 version

So in other words, I might as well get the PC version. Well at least it's on that. I would have had to buy a Vita just to play a single game. Vita's library is one of the worst ever.

Cool, this is coming out on Playstation 2 as well! N I C E ! ! !

Just saw the gameplay video. The aesthetics of the city looks really bland. There's barely any people populating this huge city as well. I don't mind PS2 or PS3 graphics at all. In fact I think a lot of PS2 and PS3 games look better than modern games today, due to a better art direction. But this game just looks bland on top of having old graphics. At least the gameplay should be fun.
