Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony will no longer allow retailers to sell digital codes for games, add-on cards and PSN$ cards will remain

Sony want more profits.

They need to add the ability to gift people games on psn though.

This is the digital future, where the only place you can buy games is on the platform-holder's own storefront. There is no incentive for Sony, MS or Nintendo to sell these digital voucher codes anymore when physical is gone, Sony is only pulling the trigger early

I don't think it makes much of a difference given the cards only work for a specific store.

Perhaps Sony has a better deal with retailers when it comes to selling PS Store cards? Therefore they just want to sell those, that's my assumption.

Fine by me, i rarely buy digital as it is, unless the games is like $5-$7 on sale. I refuse to spend more than that on a digital game.

I am curious to know why Sony would still consider selling physical games than? Might as well drop the entire thing and make PS a full online only system since they are taking away options for customers. I honestly don't get this approach. I thought MS were bad with there push towards digital only but they aren't removing the options.. not yet anyway.

Maybe this is Sony's push to sell more physically copies by excluding the digital customers from stores.. or maybe they just don't want to supply stores very soon when digital becomes mandatory.

I've never seen full digital games or add-ons being sold in stores.
I only know PSN/XBL cards and PS+/XBL Gold memberships.
Might be a US only thing?

They are pretty common here, though I don't know how well they actually sell. If you go to a retail, I'd assume it's to either get a physical copy or one of those digital pre-paid cards. Still, this is a loss for the customer, more options are always better.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

1 less choice for gamers. Too bad.

Idt this is that offensive. Kind of makes sense.

It isn't a big deal but sad for the few who bought them.

I usually buy my digital codes from other sites or ebay because they're cheaper than the official store...

Hopefully Microsoft doesn't follow Sony.

Nailed it. CDkeys is full of digital games cheaper than retail or digital store price.
