Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony State Of Play - Iron Man VR, No Man’s Sky VR, Days Gone Update

Maybe Sony needs to set the correct expectations for these direct. Even MS lets you know theirs will be indie games so people do not expect some megaton stuff.

I mean, the problem is bigger than that.It dosent matter if you temper expectations if you still dosent have enough good games to show, but you have a point.

Sony has about 5 or 6 years of Nintendo directs to learn how to do one. They could ahve easily stated in the tweet when they announced the State of Play that it would be mostly about VR games and you're good.People would still be dissapointed, but far less.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Superb for psvr. No man's sky psvr is a megaton. Iron man too. The platform will be supported for another year. Sony know if they abandon it nobody would buy it on the PS5.

I wouldn't call something like no man's sky vr a mega ton, but i agree with the rest of the sentiment here. This is a good sign for PSVR going forward and heading into PS5.

Overall, it was nice. I would give it a 6/10. It about met my expectations. Though honestly I joined in late and didn't see all the VR titles - which was good, didn't really want to.

I have to say though that while Concrete Genie looks nice, I was kind of hoping it wouldn't have voice acting, or at least to that extent. It would be nice to have had a protagonist that was more comparable to something like The Last Guardian or Ico where there isn't really so much talking as there is just verbal grunts or noises. This is the perfect game to have the "show don't tell" philosophy behind it, and while the bullies did have dialogue in the previous trailers it always added to the feeling of a menacing threat being near by during gameplay rather than distracting from the atmosphere. I also feel like the facial animations are nowhere near as smooth as what they are trying to pull off - it looks comparable to something like Coraline but it isn't nearly as good at matching realistic movements while keeping an exaggerated and cartoonish aesthetic. It's almost like you're watching Coraline but with a few frame skips in-between the VA work.

Loved the CTR trailer, probably my most hyped game of the year!

Some nice PS VR announcements and a good trailer for Days Gone, why are so many people disappointed? It was very clear that there would be no big AAA news. The only disappointing thing would be no news about Death Stranding because that game was teased to be there.

The good thing is that it keeps people expectations low for the next one which might be big.

Setting that expectation upfront get rid of all the negative crap to come later.  It tempers people expectations and lower the bar for what to expect thus letting the limite games to shine better.  You can never please everyone but at least they can stem all the useless negative crap where people are expecting AAA and only get B level games.

They are skipping E3 but that doesn't mean this was the only thing they will do for the 1st half of the year. I'm sure, as it was stated, that they will at least have another State of Play before or at the time of E3, and/or something else too to compensate for not being on stage.

It's fair to compare them to Directs since they are indeed very similar, but this was their first one. I remember the first Direct not being so hot either.

Let's be optimistic, but not so much that we set the bar super high up and end up being disappointed by our own expectations.

If you review a game or a movie, you will inevitably compare it to other mvoies that are airing at the time, or that came out recently, wether they had a big budget or not. When you are reviewing something you ignore wether they are newbies or if they are doing it for the first time, because at the end of the day, its a product that they want to sell.

Same for this Direct wannabe.Sony wants you to tune in, like people tune in to directs. So yeah, Ill judge them by those standards. And even if Nintendo first direct wasnt all that hot(Dont remember if it was or wasnt), it was judged back in its day if it was worth the time or not.People didnt really care that Nintendo was still trying to get the hang of it.It had the benefit of not having competition, but thats on Nintendo favor for being the first.

I looked back on the first ever Nintendo Direct from the archives, back in October 2011, and it was only ~7 minutes long.

Mainly talked about upcoming features and games for 3DS (i.e., Dillion's Rolling Western, Swapnote, and Mario Kart 7) and reminding the audience about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword that was about to release in November 2011.

Though it did give birth to one of Reggie's famous lines/memes.."What's wrong with you?"

Of course, if you want to create something different, it can start as baby steps. Even Nintendo's first E3 direct at E3 2013 was not necessarily that well-received despite showing big games (i.e., DKC: TF, Mario 3D World, Smash 4, and Bayonetta 2 among the highlights), and Nintendo was maligned for not having live conferences anymore.

I get the impression that when they say live, that is what they mean. If it was prerecorded I don't think they would be putting up the VOD edition shortly after, they would just upload the prerecorded video to begin with.

Many call Nintendo direct a live video, even though it's just a pre-recorded pre-edited video released in streaming.

You were correct, pre-recorded, but streamed live. Not sure why they choose this method. The stream on Youtube was terrible. The stream kept dying on Firefox, Edge was 240p, and Chrome was maybe putting out 540p. Next time I will wait for the full upload.

Anyways, on to content.

Release dates for Blood and Truth, Everybody's Golf VR, and Vacation Simulator.

Best trailer so far for Days Gone.

Concrete Genie for the Fall.

I was very pleased with the conetent on hand. I am going to be spending a lot of time with PSVR over the next few months, with all the great experiences lined up.

Personally, I would have perfered to have a person introducing stuff, with creators talking about their titles like we see from Microsoft and Nintendo. I didn't really feel like any love went into making this. Just makes Sony look totally disconnected from their users too me.

I was hoping we would hear something about at least one of the big three, but I can understand they want Days Gone to have the spot light at the moment. At this point I am starting to feel like I will just hold off on playing GoT, TLOUPII, and DS until PS5 arrives. Why waste my time playing in 1440p/30, when within a few months I will be able to play at 4K/60. Thats's just my feelings.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Where did they make that clear at?

I think that's where part of the problem is, when companies try to imitate Nintendo's directs. What gives directs the heart and soul was when you see Iwata, Reggie, Shibata, Bill Trinen, Koizumi, Sakurai, Miyamoto, and other presenters at Nintendo present themselves to the camera and talk to you about the upcoming games. It was almost like building a personal connection between the gamers and the creators.

Part of the issue back in the day was that Nintendo was too seclusive. The directs attempted to bring more personality behind the developers who created these great games. Kinda like when Willy Wonka showed some behind-the-scenes areas to the Golden Ticket winners when they visited his Chocolate Factory, while still having a great sense of mystery behind the factory. Iwata truly was a pioneer in bridging the gap between consumer and developer. Of course, Nintendo will remain a company that likes to keep most of its secrets close to its chest until they are ready to show more, so they will usually tease you with a trailer but will not present everything the games are offering.
