Forums - PC Discussion - The Epic Store won't accept 'crappy games,' says Tim Sweeney

A small snippet from the article. Well worth a read. The likes of Jim Sterling and many other steam critics will be rejoicing at this news. Personally I think it's a good move.

""We'll have a quality standard that doesn't accept crappy games," he said. "We'll accept reasonably good quality games, of any scale, whether small indie games to huge triple-A games, and we'll take everything up to, like, an R-rated movie or an M-rated game. A GTA game would be fine to us, but Epic's not going to distribute porn games or bloatware or asset flips, or any sort of thing that's meant to shock players. The PC's an open platform and if we don't distribute it in our store you can still reach consumers directly."

This is a sign for Steam to learn.

Yes many people will continue to make fun of Epics Store however give them time and they will be huge. No one liked Steam at its launch either and look at how big Steam has become.

Quality control needs to be important for every platform. Its how Nintendo, one of the biggest gaming companies in the world came into power.

Why are they also accepting all those early access games as well. I remember seeing plenty across Youtube and many a site that cites early access games as being garbage, so if that's the case, then why are Epic allowing unfinished games onto their store as well?.

You'd think they would allow for finished and polished experiences, rather than high prices, unfinished and rough experiences.

Apparently Epic doesn't know the actual difference.

I can't wait for this to blow up in Epic's face over time, sot hat Epic will learn that quality is subjective, that other people just like other games, and that fans of anti-consumer practices (you know exactly who you are) can jog on.

I think this is a good move although the mountains of crap on Steam never really affected me. I never go on the store not knowing exactly what I wanna buy. So as long as the search function works, I don't see the asset flips and other cash-in games.

Speaking of that essential search function. I see Epic added that in a recent update :P

I remember when we thought the same of the PSN store or the eshop. Give them time, they'll come around to it too.

I also like how I'm able to block out entire genres, dev teams, publishers and search tags like "early access", from seeing them on the storefront.

I was excited when they said they were okay with the R rating but then they said no porn games and lost me haha I don't hate on other genres why they gotta hate on mine. :'(
