Well I "beat the game". I decided to obey the Owl, and then beat the back to back boss fight. Started over from scratch. I think it'll take me about 10 hours to get back to the point where I was at when the game ended. That's the best part about From Software games. 2nd playthroughs are so much faster!

Also, I just realized that it's possible to beat Genchiro at the very start of the game. You just have to be really damned good. I wonder what secret that unlocks. :D

I hate to be that person but if you want to know what you get from beating Genchiro then look at the spoiler tag

Spoiler!
You get nothing for beating him in the beginning beside still getting your arm chopped off.  Still fun to do.

Omg folks. I bought a cheap wired controller that has click buttons that are flush to the surface with no give to them, they click as soon as you start pushing the button and my game has improved immensely. I got to Ishanns third phase without taking a single hit, something I can't do with the ps4 controller proper. It feels like there is a ton of I'm out lag being taking off the top. It's incredible how much of a difference it makes, I was running circles around Way of the tomoe just taunting him.

I talked about this based on using the PS4 controller compared to using my Xbox controller.  The Xbox controller click instantly compared to how much give the PS4 controller does.  I actually wished I bought the game for the Xbox because there has been way to many times I felt I was perfect on my parries but because the PS4 controller has so much give, that slight delay screwed me over.

I also believe the PC version does not suffer the frame pacing issue the Xbox and PS4 does which would mean using the Xbox controller on the PC should give the absolute best experience in the game.

It makes a great deal of difference, I would often get hit when trying to block after attacking for so long and I thought I was missing he deflect timing but it turns out it was just the controller. I would not have realized this and I really hope the Ds5 has these Xbox like bummers.

I've also died to the frame pacing both in fights and while grappling. It sucks that these little issues could cause such a drastic reduction in ability, It makes sense because of the nature of his game but you would think they'd extend the deflect timing by a few milliseconds to address this and offset the input lag. If I noticed it surely the QA testers must have as well.

Definitely a contender unless Nintendo releases a Mario/Zelda, or Rockstar releases anything.

From Software has always had these frame pacing issues within their games. For the Souls games its not such a big deal because you are not trying to perfect parry within that game but within this one, the slightest hitched can cause you nightmares.  This game should be a 60FPS standard due to how you have to play it.  I hope a patch comes out and smooth a lot of the frame issues and stabilize the frame rate if possible.

The controller at the moment is enough of a difference for me, It's such a massive leap input time I can actually see the difference on screen, so can now stop Isshans animations and clip his before he hits without even having to deflect. I agree, this game should have a performance option with 60fps even. He'll, I'd take a 1080p option on pro for those few extra frames and to avoid the stutter.

I really recommend grabbing a cheap controllers to anyone who is having trouble with this game. Here is the one I bought for half the price of a DS4, it's not ideal but it works so, so responsively which makes up for the slight lack of comfort in it's design.

And I'm going to buy this next, looks like it could be great.

Started my new playthrough yesterday getting an hour in. Got six hours in today. I'm already at Genchiro. Gonna take a break and go to the gym now.

I was surprised that you could get two easy stab on the corrupted monk by just climbing to the tree. I did it by accident.
