is this a confirmation sekiro has the same system in place?

It has the same system yes in that you use idols, a version of DS's bonefires however like darksouls you do not loose progress in this game, only currency and here it is halved instead of a loss but what might be the best thing for you is my only real complaint of the game, the checkpoints are placed so close together that you will never "loose progress". They are set up here in a way that even DMC5 had a larger and more punishing checkpoint system in terms of loosing ground convered. At the very max and this is like MAXIMUM, you'll loose 15 minutes in one particular spot at mid game. Most of the time the check points are a few minutes apart depending on what exactly it is you are doing.

That's not exactly true, both for if you're talking about progress as in experience, and if you're talking about progress as land covered.

In Souls games Souls are both currency AND progression since they help you level up.

In Sekiro the death system makes you automatically lose half of your experience and money earned.

It's also really misleading to say that this game has a more forgiving checkpoint system than Devil May Cry 5. The way Sekiro works, checkpoints are a vital part of the game. The way checkpoints work in DMC5, they are almost a non-entity and they're really only used for no-damage runs or when you fuck up really bad, in which case the user always has to instigate the use of a checkpoint. In other words you may lose more land covered in DMC5 using a single checkpoint compared to a single checkpoint in Sekiro, but no one uses the checkpoint system anyways because that's the point of having endless revives, whereas you'll be forced many times to restart at checkpoints in Sekiro upon your 2nd death in a row. You'll end up spending way more time recovering land in Sekiro. You could argue that the revive system in DMC5 punishes you more because you have to use red orbs or a gold orb, but not really because you have plenty of those and in DMC5 you'll die like 4 times on normal mode. Whereas in Sekiro you will continously lose EXP and Currency (you can also revive with full health in DMC5 unlike in Sekiro thus far at least).

..well shit I was excited about this game but I just am too busy between work and the kids to constantly replay parts of a game over in my free time.  guess I'll just suck it up and rebuy Onimusha warlords

I would personally say that this is the kind of game where you will be replaying parts of it over and over again - even in just the first few hours. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like games like that or don't have the time. It's just not for everyone as Runa said.

Good Lord, another boss than I'm sure will take a day or two, The White ape from hell. On a side note, This game does have a souls like OP level up as you progress even if the stats are single and double digits to give the impression that there isn't, I went back to clean up some bosses and wiped the floor with them, they weren't even able to put up much of a fight, I'm slightly disapointed by this and if I'd had known I'd have done the bosses when they still were kicking my ass but it's again just a minor surface scratch on a fucking stellar game. I've easily put 30 hours into the game already if not more (Yeah, I have more free time than I should and no life) and it is my Game of the year, nothing comes close even if REmake 2 is clawing at Sekerio from underneath. Here's hoping Days gone os solid and Sony put out one of those four blockbusters they are holding back mid year and another before Novermber the great year that it has the potential to be.

Yeah I agree that this game is the only real GotY contender. Nintendo has some good games coming out this year, but none of them scream GotY yet. MS is down and out. MK11 would be good, if it wasn't for all the content carving. Biomutant looks promising, but its a new IP, so flip a coin on whether or not it will be good. Outer Worlds is supposed to be fairly linear, so a bit of a step back from New Vegas, and Fallout 3.

P.S. That White Ape boss is Wyald from Berserk. You have been warned!

pc may be the way to go hmm

If you have a proper PC.

Bought a new gaming laptop recently lol RTX2070 or some crap in it.

Note: I wrapped my post in a spoiler tag, but I only really mention names of bosses, tools, and locations.

Damn, I feel like I've been playing this non-stop and yet so many people are farther than me. I guess that's why this is a gaming forum.

I haven't fought anymore major bosses yet I don't think (still just fought three), but I progressed fairly far through several areas.

Spoiler!
Entered Senpou Temple and progressed fairly far into it, found the depths, and explored a teensy bit of the Sunken Cavern. I think those are all my options so far. I was severely overwhelmed with idol's at one point that I was afraid I would lose track of which ones I needed to explore, but I've kept it under control.

My character is starting to feel powerful as hell. Oh man it feels good when you give them a good slash, slash, deflect, deflect, slash, deflect, deathblow.

@John:
I also broke my no internet rule briefly and looked up what to do against a certain mini boss that was absorbing most of the damage I was dealing. Mostly because I knew I had a consumable that would deal with it, but I only had a few, and I didn't want to run out and have to leave the mob behind. I'm not talking about the Headless dude, either. I'm referring to the mob in the dungeon that summons those skulls. The way I fought the fight was to *not* use consumables during the first health bar, and then if I was doing well enough, I would use a confetti during the second bar. This worked well and I beat him without dying during the confetti run.

But yeah, now I'm low on confetti and I found the boss room for the Headless dude, which seems to have a similar mechanic, except this guy doesn't take *any* damage. I found the boss right before going to bed last night so I'll have to find some more confetti perhaps, as I only have three left (at most).

Also, I'm saving up skill points and I'm just one point away from getting Shadowrush, the final ability in the first skill tree. I currently use the double-slash quite a lot. I tried the other skills, but ended up swapping back.

I spent some time yesterday just playing with some of my abilities, as I have a lot of prosthetic upgrades that I hadn't even tried. I'm still not understanding the Mist Raven; I can get it to work, but I'm not seeing a reason to use it, so I might be missing something. I have a really cool kunai upgrade that releases butterflies, and my Shibaru (can't remember the name) now poisons. I need to start utilizing my tools more, as I have something like 350 charms saved up.

Also, I keep getting that droning noise stuck in my head that plays as ambience in a few areas.

I broke my no internet rule for areas and bosses I hav'nt yet beaten because the Corrupted Monk is so fucking ridiculously hard compared to what has come already and after two hours doing guerrilla style in and out attacks on him chipping away at hus health only to get backed into a cave wall and pretty much one shotted I was correct, It's a fucking gimmick fight with absolutely no in game explanation or a hint as to the reason what the item (or why) you use on him. Technically it is only half of a gimmick fight or confirmation that the developers knew that the bosses health bar and posture damage was so OP that they added a back door...maybe. I don't know what this is but I'd have much preferred had they just started him on about 75 percent of his health and cut his posture damage by 10-20 percent to make it a, still VERY hard fight even by the most OP players at that point in the game but still manageable while playing the way it is obviously meant to be played in a clash of swords.
I'm watching someone beat the boss legit now, no gimmick on YT the correct way and it is such a Godly sight at 1 minute and 30 seconds I have to wonder if it is one of the developers or QA testers.

I go by my own rule as it seems to work for some/a lot of the bosses, mini-bosses included, always bring your firecracker prosthetic, luckily it worked on him, then as usual, deflect most if not all of the attacks until I posture break the boss, good thing this boss fight is quite easy as he only has 1 life pool compared to the Great Ape, only took this guy down on my 2nd try.

And of course, there is an even easier way to take this boss down, and it's with the

Spoiler!
Mortal Blade.

45 minutes...wow  you are making me feel small. I just beat him, it took me at least 3 hours of attempts on him, Maybe four and had to explore the world inside and out to get everything I possibly could bar a few possible vitality upgrade so I could beat him.

He is now in the top five of the hardest bosses I've encountered in souls games and second only to the Nameless king in he length it took me to beat him.

lol, well there will probably be some other boss that ends up being the bane of my existence which everyone else finds trivial. :P

It might be due to the number of upgrades I'd acquired at that point. I know I had two damage upgrades (memories), and I think 6 healing waters. It only took a few attempts to get the first phase of the fight down, but I found it extremely difficult to recover and heal after he switches form. I'd start healing and he'd jump attack me before I could get the heal off, and I died several times because of this.

How well do you feel you've been exploring? I've scoured every inch of every area and branching path, and the exploration in most cases is rewarded very well. Also, I progress through the areas in the order the game presents them to me in the "Travel" menu. The exception is Hirata Estate, but I explored it anyways as when I prayed at that shrine and warped there, I was expecting it to be a short memory of some sort, but it just kept going.

There certainly aren't many games that grip me the way every single Souls game has done. I can't wait to see what they do next.

I don't know what Berserk is but I'm interested now after a glance at Google. I just beat the Guardian Ape, about a half hour to an hour in total, five or six tries after a few death runs trying stuff out, he could have been a really hard boss had they not included the grapple hook everywhere to avoid his most brutal attacks especially the AOE in phase two. 4 out of 10 Genichiros. :L

Souls games are partly inspired by berserk, read the manga and be captivated, shocked, thrilled, sad, happy, traumatized and after that you can join our hiatus family.

Please try it,its art is truly amazing and each page is a masterpiece.

Damn I can't wait to fight that thing. So cool. Damn FromSoftware hit the mark with this one. Miyazaki is a god.

What are the absolute must have skills to acquire in your opinion?
