And buying Digital also offers you to own it and preserve it probably even longer than physical would.
I honestly don't get it. There are gamers out there who are happy to boycott something amazing if its not on a piece of plastic?

They cannot take your game off you as you gain a digital receipt (On Steam anyway) so there will be lawsuits if they decide to take away what you already own.
I brought Speedball 2 Tournament on Steam, the game is no longer available via the store because the company went bust. Guess what, I can still download and play the game. Infact I own the SNES Mario Kart which no longer works correctly due to the battery backup has died and the game does not save my progress anymore.
Digital does not wear or tare, it cannot get lost or stolen, and it doesn't require space to store in your house. In saying that I still buy physical copies however digital has become an amazing thing to also own. If one day my physical media doesn't work I also have the digital version that will always work as intended.

If I bought everything digitally, it could all be lost if that one SD card or hard drive died. And getting them back via receipt is only possible so long as the provider doesn't go out of business or decide they just don't want to provide them any more.
Plus, if I bought everything digitally, I'd quickly run out of space and have to spend more money to buy another SD card or hard drive.

I already proven this theory with my game I brought on Steam which is still downloadable to this very day and the company no longer exists, sure others cannot download it but those who already brought it have access to it and guess what, its really not hard at all, I just type in the name of the game in my library and click download. If you think services like Steam will go out of business than I have nothing to tell you but good luck in that belief.
You will run out of hard drive space, much like it is now with gaming that requires full disc installation. Nice one. Maybe go buy a bigger hard drive.
Nothing lasts forever.. however digital most likely can withstand the test of time, all my games I brought back in the early 2000s still work to this current day that I brought digital and there all still there, where as the games I have owned physically in the mid 1990s etc are starting to give up. I treat all my games with care but games that rely on battery back up etc don't and wont last forever, that's out of my control. Eventually your cartridge or disk readers in your consoles will stop working much like the disks and cartridges you put in them. Its why its still very silly to me that people swear by physical media and will not buy something that is great just because they don't have it on plastic.

Steam is irrelevant to me as I do not game on PC. And relying on a company to always be around and offer a specific game isn't something I feel like gambling on.
There's no reason I should have to buy a second SD card for my Switch, by any reasonable standard it should last the generation. I'll buy my games on cartridge and I won't have to pay for any more space.
My Switch carts and console are unlikely to give out for decades to come.

The counter argument is that physical also has issues depending on the format as discs do wear out over time while solid state formats also share the same risk of dying like hard drives, providers going out of business or not providing the product anymore hits both digital and physical only with digital depending on the platform the game can remain available for purchase if they go out of business or still be redownloaded if the publisher pulls the game because of consumer rights laws an example are the Crysis games on Steam I can still download them on Steam even though EA pulled them from Steam long ago. With physical if something happens to your copy you could end up having to pay hiked up prices to rebuy the game.

The batteries in old cartridges are easily replacable, they’re just regular watch or hearing-aid type batteries. At most over time you’ll lose your existing save.
EDIT: Well, they do need soldering, but still.

Awesome news. It was one of the very few Xbox games that interested me, but i wasn't buying an X1 for it. I'll definitely grab it for Switch, at some point down the road after a physical release.
