It has mainly only affected more niche Japanese titles, but yes they are censoring games.  DMCV is the first big game to get hit by it, and it is only in the west, but the other games are censored even in Japan.

 

Funny thing is that the same games on Switch are not censored in any way, which is ironic when you think about it.

Not sure PS5 will be able to compete with the Switch, let alone any later versions of the Switch, the market seems to want a smaller form factor particularly one that can be mobile

For instance, Nekopara is rated M on Switch. For Sony, that wasn't nearly good enough, so they had to change the game, so much so that the PS4 version has an E rating. From M all the way down to E, let that sink in for a while.

Sure its sales will drop in japan, but will see increase in sales rest of the world as playstation has gotten more recognition in countries like china and india over the last few years.

Japan sales make a difference.  For example the Switch sold more WW in Feb despite having only slightly more sales in the US with notably less sales in EU than PS4.  This is because Japanese sales number made up the difference and put Switch ahead for the month.

At that point they will just have more 3rd party executives geared toward what the Switch is.  It might not have many multiplats, but the install base is too big for 3rd parties to ignore at this point, especially in Japan.  Look at how long they kept the VITA alive for example.

 

And when the inevitable Switch 2 comes in say, 2022...your argument becomes moot anyway.

ps5 will do well in japan and will dominate everywhere else just like the ps4 because its highly unlikely switch would be getting big japanese games like tekken 8, persona 6, ff16, monster hunter world 2 and many others western 3rd party games. i can definately say ps5 will sell at leaast 8 million in japan so thats good enough

It depends on what the PS5 is, but if the PS5 is like the PS4 then that is only a logical assumption as PS2>PS3>PS4 and 360>XB1 and DS>3DS>Switch.

Those few games would be the only reason it sells at all in Japan at this point.
