Charter schools are privately owned but publicly funded.

How does that work? Do they have to follow public standards?

No, they don't.  Hence part of why it's hated on.  Take money out of already hurting public schools and then dump it into private schools with zero public accountability.

What are the good parts of it? I know we have them here in nyc and if they are still around in a really progressive city there must be some type of positive.

The positive is that the curriculum can be whatever that school wants it to be.  The problem with that is that it's really subjective.  Some will say charter school curriculum is better, some will say it's not. And it's dependent on each school.

One more negative aspect, they can close on a whim.  I watched 3 of them close in my city last Dec/Jan with absolutely no notification to the students or parents.

This last question is such a waste of time.

Winners: Biden, Castro, and Warren-
Solid: Beto, Booker, Amy, and Buttigieg.
Losers: Yang, Bernie, and Harris.
I think Biden did really well. He defended his healthcare position well and I think he has the besteducation plan. Catro had some solid attacks and Warren did good overall.
Beto had his first good performance and Booker did really well.
Yang and Bernie barely talked. Bernie seemed sick so yeah. Harris sounded high and made no sense a lot of the time.

This is how I felt through half of it.

Jesus this was the worst debate. Filled with inane babble.

Julian Castro's petty disrespect created a lot of blowback and I love it.

ACTUAL Hypocrite of the Year:

The ideological neoliberal who posted this in order to promote pro-corporate, centrist alternatives like Joe Biden and Amy Klobuchar. And who also apparently believes that Trump was the better option in 2016.

Can you elaborate?

She endorsed Hillary Clinton instead of Bernie Sanders in 2016. Clinton was buddy buddy with wall street and Sanders was not.

I hear this line from certain Sanders fans, but it’s not only a flimsy argument, it’s also hypocritical. They also conveniently forget Sanders ALSO endorsed Clinton.

Personally, I see every indication of a necessity for the endorsements when there was a strong effort to convince progressives not to vote for the Democrats to make it easier for Trump to win.
