Forums - Gaming Discussion - Biggest franchise you always wanted to try but never got around to

There's tons of gaming franchises out there, and it would be hard to try them all, or even all the notable ones. The more genres you like, the more franchises you feel like you're missing out on. As someone who likes most video game genres, my list of such games is massive. Between not having the right system, or not enough money, or not enough free time, or not knowing where to begin the series, or just feeling like the backlog has gotten too big to warrant throwing another whole series of games on the pile, there are plenty of reasons we don't get around to games we know we'd love and the whole world tells us we need to play. For me, the number one series I regret not getting around to would have to be Metal Gear. Snake is awesome, Kojima is a creative genius, and the whole gaming world agrees and tells me I'm nuts not to have played them. I've no doubt I'd love the games, but I just haven't gotten to them.

What's the most glaring example for you of a major franchise you just haven't gotten around to but really wish you could? I'm not talking hidden gems or one-hit wonders, I'm talking long running, best selling, critically acclaimed franchises you've just never touched for some reason even though you really want to. Tell me I'm not the only one this happens to?

If you asked me this 6 months ago, it would have been Metal Gear Solid.

Nowadays....I guess....Metroid, Castlevania, or Silent Hill?

Silent Hill is on there for me too. If you ever get to Metroid, don't start with the original. Super and Prime are probably the best places to start, but if you want to go in chronological order, start with Zero Mission, not the actual original.

This is 99% of Nintendo franchises for me, as i've never had a Nintendo console outside of the SNES and GBA, so i've never properly played Kirby, Metroid, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart , Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, etc. The only ones I actually remember owning and playing for myself are I think are the first Legend of Zelda on GBA and the SNES Super Mario games since I was given those consoles and that's what they came with. :P

I would have liked to buy a Nintendo console in the past but I had no money and mostly played PS2-PS3 growing up and mostly play PC and PS4 now. So once I get a Switch the online service will actually be beneficial for helping me to catch up on the ones i've missed.

Well the Switch has some of the most solid entries for several series, so you can't go wrong with a Switch. Star Allies isn't the best Kirby game but it's a good one. Really easy, but that's half the point of a Kirby game is to be an easy platformer to play with friends. Hopefully they come out with Metroid Prime Trilogy. The rest of those you listed the Switch has at least one great entry on the system or one coming.

For me, I missed out on the PS3 entirely for money reasons so I'm kind of the reverse situation. I played a few things on friend's consoles but there's a lot I've never properly played, like Uncharted.

Final Fantasy. I have no idea where to even start with this series. The first one? 7, since that’s supposedly the best game ever made? 15?

its not a franchise but i would say

LAST OF US

For me , its mario and zelda as i never owned a nintendo system and probably never will.
I'd love to try them out but none of my friends own a switch.
There are'nt even trail stations or nintendo stores in my country ( india).
If all that is'nt reason enough, nintendo games are way too overpriced here in india and they never go on sale.
Had terrific experiences on my playstation consoles over the years and will continue to do so.

I'd probably emulate zelda and mario on my pc if i have to.

Hmmm I’ve played most of the big, obvious Japanese developed franchises at least once.

From tales of rpgs, to FF to Mario, to mgs, to castlevania, to silent hill and more.

I’ve played a little of pretty much everything. Even halo and gears of war.

Ahh got one. Mass effect. Never played any of them.

A lot of the big franchises that have mostly evaded Nintendo platforms for the past few gens (due to exclusivity or lack of power or whatever). Fallout, Bioshock, Red Dead, Gears, Uncharted, Dark Souls... probably a load more.

Kingdom Hearts, but i am changing that. Own all the games now.
HALO, but i had to choose between XBOX or PS and i chose PS

It's interesting cause the last year I've caught up on so many franchises, finally finished a Final Fantasy, finally played Dark Souls and Bloodborne, finally played Devil May Cry
